As I have only just arrived in Adelaide and currently have no kit

I am thinking about either buying a small amount of really cheap kit to get me through to the end of the year or maybe buying some new kit if it is the same size as the kit that needs replacing anyway.

Not being aware of the conditions you have a tendency to get over here I was hoping to get an idea of the size of board and sail people have a tendency to use the most; an indication of where you sail, winter/summer and sailor size

would also be useful.

I appreciate that this is a bit of an open question (depends on the conditions) but I am sure that most people have one set up that they end up using more than any other; i certainly did in the UK.

The missus is currently saying she doesn't want to come out here; she says she won't windsurf out here cos of the sharks

Cheers Dave, I am currently having trouble convincing the missus to come out here so don't know whether my stuff is going to be shipped out or whether I'll be flying back in the new year

We'll definitely have to catch up with each other sometime soon; maybe meet up with big cheese as well. I am busy the next couple of weekends but if you guys are out after that I'll probably pop along to see what some of the southern spots are like. It is blowing a hooley here at the moment (Edinburgh); I hate work!

555, is the guy back on the water or did the experience put him off?

Sounds good, by the way, does your missus sail? A few chicks getting into the sport lately, met a chick, Swedish Linda at Goolwa on Saturday, ooosh be doorsh!

Sure does; she got me into it in the first place!

Strange thing is she loves sharks (well is fascinated by them anyway); would love to do a Great White cage dive; and always wound me up about the fact that there are sharks, including whites, in the Red Seas where we used to go on windsurf holidays; but the fact that a guy I work with was attacked while surfing (only the board got hurt) and has since given up, has made her think she will NOT windsurf out here at all!

dont worry bout the stupid sharks! you have to be so dam unlucky! all the facts show it! its just when ever there is a unlucky attack the media are alll over it and it makes the front page. its stupid and really pisses me off!

any way i weigh around 70kgs and have a 85ltr. i would reccomend this size for over here. i have a 5.9 5.0 and a 4.2 and can just about get out in every condition that is half decent over here. my board is a JP FSW. its wikid! highly reccomended!!!

u need a good allrounder for flat water and chop/waves i think.

I weigh around 85kg so was reckoning on about a 100l bpard with 5.0-6.5m sails; I usually err on the side of caution and go powered up so probably aim for a 5.5 or 6.0. From what I have seen so far it looks like it is probably similar average wind strength to back home but I won't really know till the summer arrives.

As for the sharks, I reckon I'll just need to take Anita to wherever everybody else is out and she probably won't be able to resist it!

Sail in freshwater. Last time i checked there was no sharks there. Only hidden posts, hidden wires, channel markers and hidden rocks. And that sand bank at Bogy Lake always sneeks up on you quickly.
