Hello, Could anyone give me their opinion between Ezzy SE/Pryde Zone/ North Voodoo wave sails for a sailor of 68KG (and of average ability) is there a clear difference between any of these sails in the 2004/2005 range? Thanks. Confused Dungbeetle....
Im 63Kg and i use Ezzy sails and find them great. THey feel very controlable, rig nicely and are built well. Not sure about the difference between the other brands but I think the consensus would be that ezzy, north and pryde are all good sails.
going just on brand name is probably not a safe way of buying a sail, especialy if it doesn't deliver what you need from it. I mean you are a reasonably light fellow and would guess that a sail that bias' top end control and beeing light in the hands would be better than something realy powerful.I have a friend who had simmer sails(who also is light),and he hated them.I on the other hand thought they were great with heaps of power, but im a lot biger than him. He has moved on to ezzys and loves them, and I feel that they lack a lot of get up and go,but are smooth. All the sails on the market are good but I would consider what type of feel you want out of it. Ezzys or tushingham rock would be worth a look.
This is a pretty tricky question. Most people do not have a range on manufactures sails in their quiver. Most tend to stick with a brand. Since I know of no one who would go out and buy 2 sails the same size, same year but from different makers just to compare them, you are left to your own devices. Troll the net for reviews from mag sites. See if you can demo sails from shops, this may help. And for my (slightly) biased opinion (aren't they all?). I have tried both Ezzy and NP. Both have their merits and it's hard to find a bad sail these days. The Ezzys' were more durable, but the new NP range includes full spectra x-ply sails as well. My new Zone is light and very well reinforced this season. At the moment it's NP for me!
Check out the likes of Scott McKercher (No 1 world wavesaling champion), Luke Walmsley, Ty Bodycoat, Matt Holder, Justin Stock (works at Pelican Point), Ben Severne, and a heap of others in action.
It's the fastest growing sail brand in the world AND they are designed in Western Australia.
Three different ranges of wave sails to suit all styles, I could go on and on...
Used by the worlds number one wavesailer, can't be too bad... Go Scotty.
Now. I know that some people find it hard to comprehend that a Pommie sailbrand ( especially one with more than two syllables in its name) can create one of the worlds best range of sails. ..............."Tushingham Rock"s............ Great performance, longevity with a good price. Now the "Image" may not be there, but who pays much attention to hype anyway?? You're welcome to come down & try the demos.
Good sailing. Jez. + good onya from us Scottie. Along time coming but well deserved. ( I thought that you were too busy too read forums Ian)
Of course It's time I plugged Gaastra. It gets more detailed than just a brand. Do you need onshore or sideshore. What sizes? Anyway check out the Manic and Poison.
I am a pryde man. this year the Zone replaces the Core so for light weights i think that the Zone will be pretty awsome. But everyone to themself. I want 100% performance so im hopefully using Zones this season
I have changed from NP Search to Tushi's. I'm stoked with them. They have a nice soft feel to them & huge wind range. The Search is one powerful sail but.
I think most sails are pretty good these days. But go for the X ply construction.
A agree with deano, what ever you get should be good. For me at the moment i have severne, NP and ezzy. They all have their good point and their bad. Im soon to get Hot Sails Maui which should be fun. I just think you should try out as many sails as possible so find out what suits you. I weigh the same as you too so if you make your biggest sail a powerful/good for feather weights it you mean you get out in bugger all wind ( one of the many advantages of being a feather weight)
is the NP thing independant from WSP Or, is this "cash for comment" stuff we are reading?
Rocks Are Fun
Like you Dr Rock, Windsurfing was my hobby and passion way before i started working at WSP. I hate using gear that doesnt work. If you have gear that you like, you will recommend it to others who are not so sure about it. I am passionate (sometimes over passionate) about the gear i use cause it works so well for me...
I know your opinions on NP are not motivated by the shop for which you work. I agree with you, NP is good gear. The comments I made were in regards to the 3 posts in a row.
