Hi,
I require urgent assistance.
While buying a new fin yesterday I may have accidently bought a new board as well...(Wait, let me just check... Yep, I can confirm that a new board is sitting in the garage....)
Any suggestions on a plausible excuse that I should provide when it gets discovered???

I use "it is a busted one that is broken internally, got it for $200 down from $2000. I can fix it up, what a bargain" .... chix dig sales.

U just have to go to the shed / garage and dribble some solvent like acetone on the floor each evening so it smells ..... (1) she will think you're actually fixing it and (2) won't go in there cos it smells bad

Do`nt admit its yours, you`re just looking after it for a friend.
When its a couple of years old you bought it of your imaginary friend for a bargain price!

keep it out of sight for a while, then when eventually asked about it, "oh I've had that for month's"

or

"it came free with when I bought the fin"

Pretend you'll get rid of old gear and that she wins in the trade-off (good luck).

Hi Kato,
I got another Super xcite- 130 litre, a few seasons old..No wait...at least that's what it says on the board...I'm not too sure as I didn't even realise that they threw in a board for free with every fin purchase.

Didn't you buy if for your wife?
Because that is what my husband would say and that he would have to test it first to make sure that it was suitable for me only to tell me that it wasn't but now that he has used it he would not be able to return it so he might as well keep it and get me one next time

So Coby - that's the excuse he brought to buy the Kode.
Mick - that's the board I wanted to replace the 144 barge - damn. Face the music son, they have means of finding things out. Romantic dinner, do the dishes, hide the knives and confess just as she is falling asleep. She will think that she was dreaming and by the time she notices it, it will be old news. I like Kato's thinking. Test board for camera mounting. Business purchase, tax deductible, may even qualify for the government's 50% capital purchase allowance.
Now we need to get out and test it!!

The best advice I can give you is to make sure that she does not read this forum, as my adorable much better looking forgiving other half does.

Other than that put old foot straps on it as new ones are always a dead give away.

I did this last year. Didn't say anything till one day, a few months after the purchase, my wife asked me why there were two boards in the van. I told her I got a good deal on it, which I did. It didn't really help much. Since then she has started windsurfing and its much easier to justify purchases.

ok, i feel i can talk with some authority on this one.

i have tried them all.

a quick list.

1. it's a proto that i've been given to test
2. i designed the graphics on it and wanted to take it for a spin.
3. i didn't pay for it, it's just a loaner
4. i was getting another board repaired and borrowed this one in case it's windy

5. stick it in a board bag
6. stick it in a board bag
7. stick it in a board bag

with sails i just get all the same graphic. they all look the same

of course i do come clean about these purchases. but i've tried it all on.

the wife can spot a new piece of kit just walking past the garage with the door closed.

edit*** my wife said to tell you all of your attempts are in vain as the wife always knows what's going on with the finances.

Wonder if there is a version of this for a male..maybe I could get another horse.. + a new pair of XC skis...although I suppose the horse would be a bit obvious when he wakes up & looks out at the view in the am..

You just have to say you need a new horse/xc skis/house for your libido. Of course you would then have to perform like anything :)

This is how I justify new kit...."Honey, what do you mean I wasted money on a new board, let's have a look in the wardrobe shall we....."
I spend say $2500 on a new kit each year, which brings me unlimited joy....gets sailed till its destroyed and needs to be replaced....Yet every time we go out, the one that's concerned with the finances need a new dress, top, pants or whatever...then there has to be new shoes, bag and accessories...then we have to go and get the hair done...$200-$300 later we can go out. And this stuff is lucky if it ever sees the light of day again.
I can buy new kit whenever i want.

Just tell her that if you weren't able to go sailing, you'd have to hassle her for sex more often.
