Need advice to make the board fly on fin.
Stopped wingfoiling, want to try speed freeride for lightwinds. Never used slalom board or cammed sails before so got a freerace board, tried it today with a wave sail, boards nose was sticking a lot when sail was not powered up, it was ok when powered. Footstraps are back, mast track all the way back, boom 5cm higher than my normal.95lt 61cm, 32cm g10, 5.5m, 16-18kt, 62kg
I am planning to get a 6.0 freerace sail as well, but i am a bit confused, would that sail would make it stick even more?
Or should i change the fin? In what way?
Thanks in advance
Unless you are racing at the PWA level you do not need a cam sail. The difference in top speed is maybe a knot (there is a great comparison on the Point-7 web site, where 0-, 2-, and 3-cams all go above 34 knots), and whatever advantage a cam might have for recreational use is diminished by the rigging hassle, weight, occasional water start nightmare to (they do fill in with water!), and their unforgiving nature. You go 110% and they are great. Stable and "effortless".You are overwhelmed, want to slow down or have a bit of a shaky jibe? Good luck. Same for the fin. You do not need carbon, especially at 32. A Tectonic Phoenix was competitive at the PWA racing for many years, at sailing levels we can only aspire too.
The problem you are experiencing is inherent to modern slalom boards. They only work well is if overpowered. So no, a 6.0, or better a 6.5, would not make it stick more. A 6.0-6.5, or more, is what the board needs.
