sorry newbie question.
for the v8, it says it needs an imcs21 mast 430 in length.
can i use any mast that fits among these specifications or does it still need to be a neil pryde.
also.... my current sail (which i gutted today :( ) says a 430 mastm but it is currently rigged on a 460 mast.
will i be able to rig a v8 on this mast?
does anyone have one of these hanging around they havnt put on the for sale section yet?

cheers

Bryce

Rig it and see what it looks and feels like. Does the V8 have an adjustable head or is it fixed? Sorry I don't have a 430 NP mast. I cut down an old Powerex Surf mast from 460 to 430 to fit my smaller sails. It rigs a hand me down Neil Pryde VX2 5.2 reasonably well.

Hi FknBryce
If you can get a pryde mast for it. There's a couple of x6 430's in the for sale section which would be perfect for the V8, you may be able to get one transported to sydney. If possible spend the extra and get a new mast, second hand masts in general are quite often false economy (as i found out with four different brands)
Pryde masts are quite stiff in the bottom section compared to other masts.
Basically if you get another brand the sail will not have the same power, wind range or comfort. You might also run into problems with the cams not reaching the mast or not fitting.
It doesnt look like you will be able to get away with using a 460 on that sail.

hi fknbryce love those v8's it's kinda mast specific in length and rigidity..i would believe as with all sails it would rig very full or bloated no loose leech on a stiffer and longer 460 regards

Yeah it is a good looking sail. Thinking about trading in my bigger sails for V8s once I'm fit and back on the water.

Sean has the right idea though. Difficult to establish the reliability of a second hand mast. However I have a second NP Race Pro 460 thats hasn't caused any drama for me.

That looks like around a 2004 or 2005 model. I have a 2005 v8 in a different colour, and I use it on a 430 Tushingham and it rigs beautifully.

They will be sensitive to mast type so see if you can try before you buy or get a genuine Pryde mast.

Looks more like an 06 one to me.
A severne mast should be ok. I've used the severne race mast in an 04 8.4 V8 with very good results, but that prolly won't help if strapped for cash. I would speculate that a KA mast would be ok too. V8's won't be half as mast-sensitve as the NP race sails. Having said that, I wouldn't try a North, nor Gaastra mast in the Pryde. If I was you, I would be looking for a second hand X6.

Try Windsurf'n'snow at Collaroy.

wssboards.com.au/

Great to deal with and very helpful. They have 2nd hand masts etc.
Hope that helps
