I think there should be a new 'forum user' star system.
It should be based on your capability.
There could be a tickbox in your profile of the things you can do.
i.e
Water Start
Carve Gybe
Duck Gybe
Forward Loop
Spocks
Backward loop etc etc.

Of course this requires total honesty and self monitoring.
This would allow you to then ask advice off other sailors regarding a particular move.

The kiters could have something similar like
Boost.
Dangle from string upside down.
Boost.
Dangle from string right way up
Boost.
Dangle from string sideways... etc. etc

The new system could even run in tandem with the old star system and you then have little windsurfers underneath showing how good you are.

i would like an extra star please for coming up with this suggestion.

Or how about:

Your star rating is based on how many positive thumb votes your posts have received?

Yep, that would work!

I think the new star system should be based on a cumulative rating of the thumbs up / down of your previous posts so that reading posts from repeat crap posters can easily be avoided.

If that was in place you could have avoided reading this post

Or how about getting notified that someone posted the same idea whilst typing

I think the star system should be based on a demit scheme like drivers licences.
Everyone starts with 5 stars.
You loose a star
for posting using only acronyms
for asking a question that has already been asked without checking the archives
every time you get caught by a troll
for mentioning safari lodge
for posting a link to that dumb-ass in the top-hat who gets lofted
for posting in the wrong forum
for being a grammar/spelling nazi

Then it would be obvious that members who have been around for a long time, and still have all their stars that they are a genuine, knowledgable, well rounded, nice person.

All the "one-star-idiots" could be conveniently ignored

How about a cumulative rating of the thumbs up/down posts?
