Is it only me or is there other people out there who Elmo their new kit?

My beloved wife got me a lovely JP slalom fin for my birthday last weekend.

I put this wee beastie onto my SX (which I also bent on my first return run) and took of getting up to speed and then WOOOMPA (Techanical term there) I decide to use it for a depth check on the bottom at 50kmh.

I had traveled a whole 160m!!! this has to be an all time record for me and my Stunt Elmo skillz.

Thankfully apart from my ego, no damage this time

Please tell me I'm not the only Goomba in town.

Alby

Ps

Hardy didn't escape unscathed on the session.

On his final run into shore he also did a fin depth check which resulted into the need for some serious Rhinoplasty work on his board

hi elmo,

i did a total of four up at Lake Cootharaba on the weekend at full speed. lucky i broke no gear. was second time on the slalom gear. all ended in catapults. the last one had me land on my feet in 30cm deep water which gave me a very soar ankle for 3 days afterwards.
(first time on the same board i removed the fin on some rocks.)

peter also hit something in the water at the lake on his formula kit leaving him with a 30cm long gash in his leg and a nice new crack in his new formula board.

in these parts i have a reputation of breaking everthing i touch. normally user error. pete's response to me on the weekend after i asked him what had happened was i did what you normally do!

on my list of new gear blues are,

a carbon boom broken,
40cm carbon slalom fin cracked
formula board nose ding
wave board nose ding
8.5m race sail panel tear.
2 wave fins broken

on the not so new list.

creased wave board,
tail of formula board removed,
assorted wave and slalom fins broken
speed board mast track removed.
wave board nose removed
and on and on and on!

i think vando may also have a few things to add here as well.

I dunno if refusing to read signs warning of underwater obstructions (what 3 or 5 times now?) or wavesailing formula gear and running it into the beach quite qualifies as elmo'ing you're gear

vando has been dead unlucky on the boom front, needs those indestructable nautix ones (if they're still made).

My first board sometime soon after i learnt to plane in harness broke the finbox (just from sailing along), figured it was old got it replaced with another factory one- bang same thing. Got it replaced with the "you've got more chance of snapping you're board in 2 than breaking this finbox option" bought a brand new slalom fin to go along with it- first time out discovered reefs do appear where they weren't before, reshaping my fin into a 2 inch slalom pointer. On my McWages I could have cried, though on plus points the finbox survived the ultimate test and the model yacht we were working on got a high tech (and rather costly) keel.

I remember last year on my return to the sport after 13 years off I had no idea how much faster my new gear was compared to the old fantastic plastic. On my very first run on my new modern kit, I depowered the sail as I approached the beach thinking I had left more then enough distance. Of course I reached the beach in the blink of an eye, and my nice new fin had the bottom half of the leading edge ground down to the glass fibre. I guess I should be glad the fin box sustained no damage.

I Elmo'd my brand spanking new Fanatic Freewave at Gnaraloo last year...

First run out, decided to return to shore at the wrong spot and ended up being shore-dumped onto a limestone beach....Lucky no damage...

Yes doing about 30 knots, thinking to my self there's a nice flat bit of water (not thinking why would it be so flat..dufus), "see if I can go faster" me says...... "****, why have I stopped to zero", me says, Then the slow motion catapult at 35 knots starts......... "Oh please god don't knock me out...Oh this is gonna hurt......I don't wanna be unconscious..." SPPPLAAAAAAAAAAAATT...."I'm still conscious that's good,..... no bones broken that's good,....... slight whiplash that's bad" ................"Oooh my fcken board.......mummy........

There was more than just the bottom lurking at Cootharaba Gestalt
(probably scaries like bull sharks or eels me thinks)
I was catapulted twice, felt like hitting a brick wall about 1-2 k's out, only Elmo'd my pride though

Elmo'd two, yes TWO brand new 2007 JP X-Cite ride board nose.
First one first sail.
Fix im up, and it had a manufacture fault, so my kind Dealer changed it out.
Second one had it maybe two three weeks, an same result, this was despite nose protection with big rubber pad taped to nose. Being a red head ol prick, well the rest remains as
Dont buy new sails, smash them faster than I can get em

Tonight was a humbling experience.

After having a specialized windsurfing technique named after me I find that I am a rank amateur in comparison to the true master of the Elmo.

Hardie.... I am not worthy of the Title "Elmo"

You are the Grand Master Elmo

I salute you
