Hi everyone,

In the 3 months that I have windsurfed, I have ever only been to pelican point as it is a good spot to learn. However on a NW it is not a good spot to sail. Where else on the river/ocean is good for learners around perth. I dont mind travelling, as long as I know conditions will be good.

davea,

I recently discovered a spot on the Mandurah estaury that is excellent on WNW and NW, it's the Coodanup Foreshore, about 2 km of foreshore to Pick from depending on angle, very flat, and not as windy as Ocean, so would be good for beginner.

Head to Mandurah on main Highway, turn left at Coodanup Drive, turn right at T-Junction and you will hit Coodanup Foreshore.

Closer to Perth is Applecross, which is good on NW. Having sailed Applecross on many a NW, I would say "conditions wise" Coodanup is better "usually no-one there", However, socially you'd be better off sailing at Applecross "big crowd", it's fun to get to know some of the crew in the crowd, usually a pretty friendly lot

I agree - Lucky Bay in Applecross can be great fun in a NW when learning. When the tide is right, the south east section of the bay get's just deep enough to sail in (so you don't catch your fin) and can be super smooth for some quick slalom runs, and to get your gybes wired...

Hey Davea

I went to peli point on monday arvo and it was like glass, so i drove over to applecross and it was absolutely howling NW dead onshore to the beach. There was about 10 guys out, it was awesome. Sailing parralel to the beach with runs of over 1km long. I sailed for 2 hrs and was totaly Knackered. This was my first real winter sail and it was wild, I was lovin it.
