I used to sail Nobby's back in the 90's and thought I might venture out on a flat day just for old times sake..eek..
Did the Pasha Bulker change the reef much? You used to be able to get out through a channel from gybe rock through the reef or the northern channel above the reef.

I'm going to whimp & use my 125ltre freeride which I know will be a handful if there is any wind chop but I'm used to it whereas I haven't used my 95 ltre enough to feel comfortable subplaning & light wind waterstarting..I suppose I'll be aiming to be out in about 12 to maybe 20kts NE.
Silly.I had 20years where I never uphauled & now I feel nervous if I don't have the option..age..?
I'm going to wear a Neil pryde impact/ buoyancy vest with a full camelback ( c 2kgs weight) on the back of it.Although I only intend to go out the back, maybe get a few jumps and play on a swell ( if there are any) will the vest be a problem if I get munched and have to restart?
Also I seem to recall if you get munched you have to get to the mast tip and push it under & into the oncoming waves ..is that right? I wonder if I'd be quick enough these days.. Mind you adrenaline can get you to do amazing things!

Argh! I'm going to die!! ( assuming I don't whimp out..)

I did it! Stoked.insert bouncy smilie...Not enough wind to plane much or get in the straps but I survived and even played a little down some swells..Saw a pod of dolphins.!!.
125ltre + 5.8m.Cripes the long drag of the gear up the beach is a killer.. especially as I went right up to the N channel where the kites go.It hasn't improved with the years.I used to be able to carry everything on my head but old age , less fitness and crook neck makes the drag necessary these days.
Much more fun than the lake..Does the Nobby's meter overread? Seabreeze said 14 - 16kts...it didn't seem that much and my meter on the beach read 5-8kts in the less windy times.Looked more like 8-12kts...?

Welcome back.
Yes Nobbys reads too high. According to my scale, which says most people start to plane in about 15 knots, I'd say it reads 3 knots too high in an ENE (our seabreeze is ENE while the rest of the coast is NE).

The Pasha didn't change the reef (some claim it did, but if it did it was too small to worry about). The channel out from Gybe Rock is still there. Sailing at high tide makes the reef easier.

Pointing the mast tip towards the wave is a good idea. Submerging it works but you'd rarely do it. You normally just focus on trying to get underway quickly.

I'm guessing you were the only windsurfer there today - if it had been a little windier or the swell was from the south there would have been a few others.

Yep.I was the only 'poley' out ( kiter said when the wind picks up there's quite a few poleys).
Phew so it wasn't me..I suppose I'm used to using my 6.6m cammed sail in that wind strength so I would need a bit more to plane with the 5.8 non cammed.I bet my technique wasn't brilliant and I was always trying to keep up so I wouldn't hit the reef.
One thing I really enjoyed about yesterday was that I just had fun! I didn't analyse how I was sailing..who cares ? I survived!
I was checking out the channel from gybe rock and was tempted to launch there to avoid the extra 100m drag up the beach but figured I'd play it safe 1st time back. Maybe next time.
I think the 125 will be 'interesting'to gybe powered up out the back in a bit of swell..The nose went under once yesterday.
I did notice the swell was very Northerly and then swung around more E as it came in.
