Hi all,

Curious to know if many people out there are using these. I'm looking at the 42cm carbon version. Wanting to know if there are many reasons why not to buy one... having heard only good things about them. Cheers!

I've got one of these and 2 of the shorter ones which I use on Neil Pryde x-combat masts. They are absolutely AWESOME!!! You will never go back to a standard extension. I've used mine for a few years now and still going strong - haven't even had to replace the rope. One of the best windsurfing inventions ever!

I've had one for about a month and so far it is excellent; personally I only got it for the ease of adjusting downhaul on the water, rather than as a mechanism for making it easier to put the downhaul on in the first place which I never had a problem with, although I can see that this will be of benefit to some girls and youngsters.

I have a 42cm needle, didn't think it was carbon (doesn't have that cross-hatched look) but it is super light. Unfortunately I have had problems with it, namely the rope seems to slip around the cleat wheel when I try to get tension. Sometimes it slips with bugger all tension. The rope does not seem to sit deep enough in the cleat and just slips when cranking it. I have tried 3.5mm rope instead of 4mm and the wheel cleat grips a lot better. Only tried this once so far.

Anyone have similar problems or suggestions to help.

Little Jon, slippage, depends on how long you have had it. If you have replaced original down haul rope which the North came, with its 4.5MM size. The serrations at times will need a clean up to ensure they are functional and haven't rounded off. (Do this with a Dremel) But dont get too harsh with it if you do a tidy up.
The only rope that will, or I found that actually works is (I think it was called Mylar) 4mm. Fortunately Windsurfing Perth stocks it and I just ask him for another couple of meters to fit my North down haul.
You can email them (Reg)and ask, and then get it over there. But 4mm is the size, unless somebody has stocked the North rope by now.

Thanks all for the feedback on the North RDM extension.... I'll take my chances and hope I have none of Little Jon's problems.

Cheers
