I'm looking for a pair of sunnies along the lines of the Oakley Water Jackets with polarised lenses (preferably with lense colour options; the world looks so much better through brown lenses, especially at the beach!). i.e. with an elastic strap to help keep them on when I fall in/crash. Unfortunately I can't justify the cost of the Oakleys as I have a tendency to trash every pair I've owned within a year or two.

I love polarized lenses, but not for windsurfing (in fact, I'm not a fan of sunglasses for windsurfing, but anyway...)

Polarized lenses change the perspective of the water, making it hard to judge distances for landing jumps etc.

Windy Miller has some sunnies with holes drilled near the frames, apparently to let the water drain off. I wonder if you could do this to any old pair of sunnies and spray on an anti-beading water repellant of some kind?

I prefer not to wear sunnies if possible; however, when sailing late afternoon into the sun the glare of the water can get quite bad, plus it doesn't do any harm if you've got a better view of what is under the water.

I've just come across these which might do the job www.seaspecs.com/ and $75 delivered is certainly better than $390 for the oakleys!

I use "cheap" cancer council sunglasses and just drill a couple of holes to attach elastic to keep them on. I lost my last pair at Lancelin after crashing near the beach. Sailed away think "gee its bright now" then realised why. The pair I bought to replace them was $35 I think - not Cancer Council but polarised and UV filtered. And I even got around to making a hook on elastic strap out of two fishing swivel/clips and some elastic. Works perfectly and is cheap enough that losing / breaking them every couple of years is OK. Sailing in WA in the late afternoon you spend half the time squinting into the setting sun so I find them invaluable.

From one extreme (oakleys at $395) to the other; can these really be any good or polarized?

The Ignition ones the NZ guy is sellling on eBay (listed under windsurfing) are good. About $80, free post.
I bought a pair and I like them, dunno what Leech is on about I still land my doubles no worries )

Best thing about polarised lenses is being able to see reef a bit easier, in some nasty spots it can be an advantage.

No I don't Daneli. I received a news letter from some kiting company a few days ago, which had a link to those sunnies. I was a bit skeptical as to if they would be any good. Seeing this thread I thought I'd post the link.
