Does anyone know how the laws of physics apply to board vee bottoms, Drake, calls it dead rise.
Someone once told me the water flowed away from vee, the centre of the board, towards the rails, causing the centre of the vee to suck itself onto the water surface??
Any physics heads out there?? __________________ Hardie (Bozo woz not a clown, he was an intellectual genius)
No physics needed here, I see the vee like a shock absorber. If you have no vee, its like slapping a flat surface (under side of your board) onto the water and we all know that has no give making your board with no vee give a very harsh ride. But if you increase the vee, its like softening up the ride as the water is directed away under the board. But my understanding is that if you increase vee, like anything in this sport you have a trade off. In this case, speed is lost how ever, grip is increased.
the vee works inconjunction with the tail rocker and rail tuck. The angle of the vee is critical to board performance .The science behind it is that the surface area is reduced and not so much toe and heel pressure is needed to turn the board . You will find that wave boards will have the most vee than free wave than freeride than free style .Most good salom boards will not have vee because it actually makes the hull sit lower in the water which causes drag and will slow the board .If they do have vee it will be minumun to help make the board more rider friendly with jibing .Vee and rail tuck are measured in mm and range from about 2mm up to 10-12 mm this combined with tail rocker and rail tuck will make the board lose e.g wave riding .Less tail rocker, vee and rail tuck will increase up wind performance and speed .So when designing a board remember that these measurements are important and that one does not necessarly work with the other. This is a very debated topic in the board making world i could go on for hours peace out
I'm interested in knowing more, so when you have the time and inclination, I'd be more than pleased to hear about the technical side of windsurfing boards etc.
Hardie (If only I could windsurf as well as my brother Damian surfs)
Hardman , i been talking to mr greenroom and he says that your board is coming along great ,wouldnt mind to see it one day always interested in people with initative
Yeah err no emmm I was trying to keep it simple for everyone, I mean when it gets down to that level it's only space I'll save the quarks theory on vee in another post.

Point taken, just thought the uncertainty thing about waves and particles might be relevant, after all we can put enpough rocker in to handle waves, but what do you do if it's a particle??????
