Has anyone ever windsurfed at Point Walter on the Swan river in Perth? I’ve seen a couple of kitesurfers there in the past, think it was an easterly.

It's usually really gusty due to the 41m high cliffs to windward in a seabreeze. In an easterly it's good for kiters as their kites are higher, the wind funnels between Dalkieth and Pt Walter and they have less problem with the rocks.
Still when it cranks on the river and you get sick of the chop Pt Walter can give some good fast runs. It really needs a good breeze coming up Blackwall Reach to blow away the holes.

Pt walter is great on an easterly, watch for hidden rocks.
needs to be a true east, 20kn+ else its not worth it IMO.
There is also attadale foreshore in a North East which is fun....choppy but fun

Cheers for the advice guys. Looking like there could be a nice front coming through on Sunday Westerly. I'm guessing apple cross is a good spot in a westerly.

Yes, Both on same day. but the windsurfing was further up stream near a jetty.

there was a narrow piece of the sand spit I jumped across. bad move, rocks and shallow. tried jumping back, sucked board to bottom and did a cool move. Gut slide to blind across sand.

aaplecross is good on any direction including a west, or a dead east or dead south, but unless you ar very confident with your up wind ability i wouldnt try it on a SE , althought of you get to the sandbar you caqn walking all the into shore

Point Walter is a great option for those days when the strong easterlies (15-20 knots) keep the seabreeze out and at least you will get a sail. You need to get there early am (9am!) before the easterlies die. You can rig up between the boat ramp and the jetty, and sail across to Dalkeith, where the wind increases as it is funnelled by the cliffs. Coming back, you can normally sail over a sandbank and jibe on flat deep water, just in-front of the beach.

Being a narrow part of the river, it has alot of other traffic, so watch out..especially for the ferries! The kitesurfers tend to sail further west (near the spit) or further east (Attadale foreshore)..probably to keep away from the traffic.
