Just had an email from an English cousin,
quote:

I noticed on our local TV news that a woman had claimed the world speed record for sailboarding. She was zipping over (admittedly, a pretty calm) sea at 40 miles per hour. In the interview afterwards she showed the board, it was short and she stood right on the trailing edge, reckoned it wouldn't support her weight until it got speed up.

Any body heard anything about this?????

Or a ladies record???
Any idea if ladies have a category of their own, if so how far are they behind the men? (assuming they are behind the men of course)

Thought Alison had the speed title at the moment. Or maybe it is only for sails in excess of 10 or 10.5

It's a bit complicated isn't it, just did a check and Alison has/had the A class record which is 10 m2 up to 150 feet2 (13.93 m2). At 33.05 kts = 38.04055 mph

So 40 mph would beat her, but can't find anything about it on google.

very strange mixing square meters and square feet!

as far as i know the womens record is karin jaggis on an arrows sail

Karin Jaggi has broken the speed record with a run of 41.2 Knots (76.3 KM/H).

See the video of Karins record breaking run.

Here is Karins test report

Hi Ant & Willy,

So here comes the test report:

SIMPLY GREAT! For what I wanted the sails for they just worked absolutely perfect. I used the 4.6 for my record run and then the 4.1 in the afternoon. With that one I would have beaten Babeth's record another two times (over 40.5 knots) but it wasn't as fast as the morning run. That is mostly due to the chop on the ditch. The wind not only picked up but turned more downwind as well which increases the chop a lot. You then feel faster - but in reality the runs are slower. Also when I did my record on the 4.6 I was nicely overpowered - but not too much. In the afternoon I could have nearly tried an even smaller sail. Might sound ridiculous but a 3.5 would probably have been already more efficient.

The sails felt very steady. And I also kept going ok through the wind holes. Thes sails are a massive difference to the ones from November. I would still bet that the bottom camber was making the sail even steadier. As I mentioned before I think a bottom strap (from the sail to the mast foot) would help to increase the pressure on that bottom part as well.

The 5.1 I sailed quite a lot in the last two weeks. Works great - but I guess it is too big for a record.

6.3 is a great sail. I won on that the first leg in the Port-St.Louis speed event. It feels very fast - and quite similar to the smaller ones.

So long,

Karin

For more information on the record see Masters of speed website.

by the way i have a arrows 6.3 speed sail for sale if any one wants it
cheers ian
