Hi there,
Reading another thread on here I saw someone mention Windy Woppa & Jimmy's beach. i'm thinking of heading up there from Sydney in a week or two to camp / windurf (well mainly windsurf)
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations where to camp / windsurf. It'd be nice if we'd be able to camp near the beach.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Adam

Gidday Adam.
that was probably me yapping about Jimmys Beach. We have got a bit of a crew going today fro the weekend. Not to jinx ourselves but the BOM forecast is looking unreal. 25 knots NE both days before a strong southerly change Sun/Mon.
If you want to camp you have got it made. Jimmys Beach caravan park is right behind Jimmys beach and there are lots of launch spots. Nice grassy rigging, toilet block and showers. They have cabins too.
Just follow the signs to Hawks Nest off the Pacific Hgwy. Head straight through the shop area and you cant miss it. There is a surf beach (Bennetts) a couple of hundred meters away as well.
You will probably see a few others up there as well.
Also the dolphins come in close to the beach and you can usually spot dingo's and roo's and also there is a big fat goanna thathangs around the rigging area.
Works great on most wind directions except N. best is NE which is off to side-off. Long runs up to the sand spit and back. W round to SE works good so you can get out in most winds. Be aware of the out going tide out in the middle of Port Stephens. If the wind drops its a quick and free trip out the heads.
have fun

Thanks mate,
Appreciated the advice, will definately head up to Jimmy's beach over the next couple of weekends.
Are there any restaurants / bottlo's up there? Or do I need to be organised before I leave!!

Adam,
I was at Hawks Nest for 2 weeks in Nov. It is a small village, but does have a few cafe's and restaurants. People tend to go to the Golf Club for refreshments generally, but there is a bottle shop in the village.
It is an easy walk from the caravan park into the village (~5 mins).
There is a racing event on there March 4 and 5, so there would be plenty of other windsurfers around,

Just to add to JayBee's post, there is a Bi-Lo back in Tea Gardens for BBQ stuff and anything else you need. Good Chinese restaurant in Hawks Nest too.
take some spares cause' if you bust anything its back to Newcastle.
if you get a NE go down to Winda Woppa to get out in nice side-shore conditions, otherwise enjoy!!!!
