Its just natural selection doing its job.

Anyone that allows themselves to be lifted into the air by a bunch of mulit-coloured balloons, to set off on a journey, is doomed to end in tears.

Proof of the non-existence of 'God'?

I mean: Would a god really allow a priest to die like this?

Back to my beliefs along the lines that a 'Mother Nature' controls all.

edit; just read the below, sorta feel sorry for him now

Hunt for party balloon priest called off

April 29, 2008

Brazil's navy has ended its search for a priest who vanished more than a week ago while floating over the Atlantic with a cluster of party balloons.

Father Adelir Antonio de Carli has been missing since April 20, shortly after he lifted off from the southern port city of Paranagua strapped to 1000 helium-filled balloons.

Navy spokeswoman Lieutenant Catia Sandri said the hunt, conducted with one helicopter and two boats, was called off over the weekend because no sign of the priest was found after 135 hours of searching.

She said several private fishing boats were still looking for the Catholic priest, but said chances of finding de Carli alive in the ocean are "very remote".

The air force ended its four-day search for the priest on Thursday after its planes covered more than 5,000 square kilometres of land and sea.

Fire department rescue teams continued looking for the 41-year-old priest in densely forested coastal mountains, said Deputy Fire Commander Paulo Eduardo Neves.

The priest had been trying to raise money to build a rest stop and worship centre for truckers.

The priest did it so God allowed it. People do stupid things all the time. Witness driving a boat full blast into a trawler on Sydney Harbour the other morning.

True but not really natural selection as Roman Catholic priests voluntarly remove themselves from the gene pool.

Who knows? he might end up in Namibia in a couple of weeks time. Budget Steve Fosset.

man... I have done some dumb sh.t with my buddies but this tops it. I remember when I saw the photos in the paper. All I could think was... hm, I seem to recall having a similar crazy idea in a drunken haze at a pub but dismissed it as outright stupid once I sobered up.

Actually on Mythbusters they tried this. It worked and lifted Adam up about 30ft. Would have kept going if he wasn't tied down.

I volunteer to have a go myself.

Uncle frank would sponsor me.

Looking at the picture on www.clusterballoon.org/ looks easy. Just lots of nice colour balloons and that's all you need. How easy.

Looking at www.clusterballoon.org/ . Its probably the most silly thing I have ever seen, but it will allow anyone to go for a fly.

Take a slug gun with you and don't take off in offshore winds.

Slug gun is to take pot shots at ground targets.

We tried it a couple of Easters ago ( the religious theme go's on ) with " Polly " the blow up doll . She couldn't get off the ground with the 10ish knot wind -- just kept bumping along the ground. So the next day a quick trip into town to buy a packet of balloons ( we were camping at a beach out of Albany ) saw the experiment resume.
Even 20 or so helium filled balloons tied around Polly's neck didn't do much more than get her to hover a couple of metres above the ground -- a real strange sight seeing a blow up doll with a heap of ballons tied to her neck and a length of string stopping her from escaping.

Poor old Polly finished her days taped to an oar out front of the dinghy we had tied up at the beach -- just like in the Viking fleets.....
