Any use or know where to get hold of these helmets?

Look the goods and appear to offer more protection than the Gath.

G'day Anton,

Nice looking helmet, don't know where you can get them other than import which makes it a bit difficult to try on.

Another good helmet range is the Uvex sports range originally made for Skiing. http://www.uvexsports.com/category.aspx?categoryID=2

Myself I'm a huge fan of the Gath product and can honestly say if it wasn't for my Gath I would have been a statistic 2 years ago. The new range is a new design which has a thicker shell an a lot more and thicker padding, unfortunately most shops still have old styles.

Either way you go helmets are money well spent.

Curious to know what conditions you guys use helmets in.

Almost never see guys sailing with helmets on the river but I am thinking of going for one after hitting the water a couple of times at speed has had me seeing stars.

There are quite a few who use them on the river. I tend to just put mine on no matter what the conditions. I feel like I am not wearing a seatbelt otherwise. The other really nice thing about the right helmet is that they have a peak, so keeps the sun off your bonce. The peak also helps if you end up with a face full of mast. I have been struck on the nut a few times in all sorts of wind conditions.

Thanks for the feedback - head still sore next day, and that was from only hitting the water.

V. glad no mast/boom/board in between.

Out of interest, I know of the Gath helmets and had a look at the pro-tec website. Any other recommendations?

Cheers in advance.

I wear a gath every time I go out, but there is one issue that's worth considering, and that's the increase surface area of your head, puts more stress on your neck when you hit the water hard sideways. So don't go for anything that makes your head too big. I had an old protec skateboard helmet, noticed this effect with that, but it wasn't designed for water sports.
