yep, getting in early,

plus the WQ forum has gone the way of the dodo.

after last years WQ / WindWanderers xmas party had 45knots of destruction i thought this year we could all head to coochiemudlo island for a few days. awesome spot for sailing and all. maybe not the best in a NE but there is the eastern side of the island and if we get a SE we get the speed strip to play at.

calling for early ideas none the less.

*edit* maybe ballina?

Gestalt,
If your thinking Ballina in December mostly NE its wavesailing only at Lennox Head and smaller waves at Byron, only flatwater is at the river in southerly.
But for awesome flatwater N/Easterly speed sailing/blasting then go the extra hour to Yamba. NE after 1pm 15-30kn Looong runs behind wall
good c/van camping over the road etc but sh** in southerly.

yamba is good, great surfing too, and flatwater for speed. theres like 4 beaches that all pick up different swell within walking dist of eachother, and angourie is just up the road.

lookin good guys,

i think at this point yamba is a clear leader. i like the idea too. it's all jogged my brain that kruza suggested it a while back. he sold me on it i remember now. it'll be great to be able to sail formula/slalom in the morning and wave in the arvo.

rex, i am not sure about the travel distances. someone else may be able to help. but it would be great to get some other forumites there.

p.s. if we end up going to yamba i'll aim to get some dates that fit in with both NSW and QLD calenders. lots going on around that time of year.

hey da vecta what's a crazy horse?

it's about 2.5 hrs drive from nambucca, 3.0 max.
Yamba is Totally totally worth the visit
Holidayed there for 10 years straight.
Surf in the morning, lunch & a few beers, then sail "THE WALL" all afternoon in the N/E.
Flat, tide don't matter, 2+Km long, and a nice curve to rival sandy Pt.
More beers + a few wines...
THEN DO IT ALL AGAIN NEXT DAY

Take the family, heaps to do & see.

Gestalt, accomodation very, very tight til mid Jan - so keep planning ahead. cheers

thanks davmen and wineman,

personally i think it would be great to see some nsw windsurfers and catch for a drink or two. so if you guys are already going then even better!

at this stage it looks like the xmas bash will be happening at Yamba. seems everyone loves the place.

do you guys or anyone else have any tips on camping/motels etc. also would iluka or angourie be better for accomodation?

i guess everyone would mostly sail the river mouth and the waves either north or south of that.

Here is a link to some Yamaba accomodation:

http://www.clarencecoast.info/search_map.htm?sc=1

I stay at the Blue dolpin - keeps the kids occupied in the arvo whilst i'm out sailing. It is expensive and tough to find a vacancy, during summer hols.

Do a web search you'll find heaps.

Yamba waters Holiday park is most convenient to launch spot.

cheapest is out of just out of town 'Big 4 clarence coast resort'never overly full.

Bi-lo in town for cheap grocery shopping.

nice work guys,

great links, i'll try and shore this all up over the next week and then we can start bookings.

the dates i was thinking were the 3rd of jan to the 6th of jan 2008. i'll send out a newsletter and get everyone to send back their location preference so we get a majority decision.

the dates can change. however having the xmas party pre xmas is normally i bit hard as some people are trying to finish off work for the year. so just after seems a little better from that point of view.

also there is the celebration of windsurfing on, nsw state formula champs. slalom nationals, oceanics fw, qld race day, qld gps weekend, nsw wave event and on and on. lots to do it seems around this time of year.

THAT is THE peak time in Yamba - in terms of $big$, & big crowds.Try going fwd a week or two.
Most places book out 12 mths in advance.
See what's avail on the inter-web accomd'n wise

Hey Swoosh, why don't you check out some local spots re accomodation so we can get the ball rolling. It's always pretty tight early Jan, but I'm sure a local can sort something this far in advance. cheers

Proly have to bring dates forward as everythings packed/booked out during school holidays

The Duke's right - I mixed Calypso with Yamba waters - you'll still be hard pressed getting in at that time of year.

prolly best people arrange their own accomodation an meet at Turners Beach car park every arvo!
If you want every one staying together - stay just out of town at the BIG 4 - there's heaps and heaps of space even in the peak of peak season - could set up a windsurfers tent city.

hi guys,

i think people will end up organising their own accom, but i will try to make a group booking if i can.

so far Yamba is the place of choice.

i was just thinking, maybe swoosh has a big back yard?

what we did last xmas party is just organise a bbq lunch and bbq breakfast the next day. all of the other time is for what ever is happening at the time. hopefully sailing.

i also have a giveaway evening at a local pub. where we have lucky draw prizes from the club sponsors. all good fun in the end and no string attached or time frames to stick to.

last year the giveaways got cancelled because a storm hit and flattened the place. i'll never forget...

i like the idea of tent city.
