Was looking to buy a second hand 2004 5.8m RS4 for some speed sailing. When I spoke to the guy at the shop he told me that these sails are very mast specific and that you had to rig it on a NP X9 or get away with the X6. Obvioulsy I am not going to fork out mega $$$$$ on a new mast for a second hand sail which I am only going to use every now and again.

I have a 430 North Platinum (100% Carbon mast) and a North XT extension. Can anyone tell me whether I can effectively use this mast on this sail or is it not possible. Not too concerneed about camber rotation on mast as I am basically only going to use it for down the line speed sailing. Any genuine advice is greatly appreciated.

G'day Jonathon,

I use a X6 430 on a 6.2m RS4 and find no problems with the set.

I don't know if I would much around with a north mast as it's most likely got considerably different bend characteristics to the NP.

The only thing I can recommend is to test rig before you buy.

The RS4's are very horny sails though, I've never had a more user freindly sail. I must admit it scared the schidt out of me the first time I took it out though (was a tad overpowered).

Have fun
