The costs of getting the startboat to the water
Fuel for the startboat
A "gift" for the starter in recognition of his/her contribution as the person who sits in the boat for hours (possibly in the rain) starting races while everyone else gets to play.

If you get enough in your class you can probably have your own starts, but it is only racing practice, not racing.

Last weekend there were about 7 Formula sailors out and the conditions were at the top end of the formula range. 1 professional sailor, 1 semi professional sailor and the rest were all top ten formula sailors in Australia. That is the caliber of sailor you can practice against - not bad for $10.

what does the $10 get you ???? what are you supplying in exchange ( not having a go at you but really if any and all are welcome what is the 10 bucks for mate with an attatude like that i wouldent bother spending 800 bucks to come over like alot of others too i suspect .you cant tell me that out of alll your local crew you feel a need to compisate some one for acting as starter serously 10 bucks isent a lot for sure ( practice races ,informal events, downwinders are held all the time all i asked was what do you get a fair qustion i think and your responce was fair too apart from the smart ass comment taged on the end. come to WA or other states an see how many guys charge for an event like you describe.

If you can afford $10 dont spend the $800 return flight from WA and stay at home..
