Hey guys, there was a fun freestyle event up north here in Kaaanada. It's a great annual event for a little effort, no reason you'z couldn't do the same.
All it takes is one well-known guy to participate - here it was a top PWA guy, that helped. And a local in a major city to organise. Doesn't require that much organisation. Get a few door prizes from manufacturers and shops - T-shirts, bits, etc.
The top guy rates the others' performance, it's for fun only. It's a freestyle jam and not a comp. Everyone goes out regardless of conditions. Make it flatwater so all can do it and the action is close to spectators. The pro can give a seminar on moves. Enlist an older type for a seminar on longboard freestyle, say, or as a sideshow.
A small entry fee to cover couple BBQs for the weekend, communal supper at night.
Every year this comp here grows and brings ever better freestylists. Sounds simple, no?

Sound almost identical to what they have done at the celebration of windsurfing here in Sydney the last couple of years.

Best to pm Brett Morris, he's the man in the know when it comes to these things.

Yeah I looked up the Sydney. We have those too once a year here, open door, etc. Good for promoting the sport.
However I like the idea of those events centering around a (loose) freestyle comp. It's close to shore, good eyecatcher, and it does wonders for talent development.
Cheers.
