I've been having lots of fun with iMovie this year and just finished a video of my son Alex for Riders Match http://www.riders-match.com/uk/summer10/category/windsurf/

[If you don't know what Riders Match is about, it is a contest of athletic ability and video direction in sports like Surfing, Skateboarding, BMX, Windsurfing, Kitesurfing and Wakeboarding. There are amateur and pro categories. You send in a video to be part of the contest and everyone can vote on it. The 5 videos getting the most votes are submitted for judging (one of the judges is Jason Polakow) and the prizes include sponsorship by companies like Oxbow, JP, Rusty and Ripcurl.]

Alex is now 9 years old and I started teaching him to windsurf at 7. He is really enjoying it and has put in heaps of effort. His windsurfing progressed in leaps and bounds and I took him to the Freestyle World Championships this year where he won the under 11s division in Freestyle, Slalom and Flowstyle.

The mastercard has been well used (I have wanted to give him the right gear as he's needed it along the way) but keeping up with him is stretching the limit, so when someone suggested Riders Match, I thought I'd give it a go...

But, it took a while to get the movie organised and I've left it a bit late (the contest started in July and only has 2 weeks left for votiing). The other contestants have thousands of votes already (in particular there are a couple of French kids leading the category and you could take a look at their videos too and make your own judgement as to where you think Alex should be). I'm not asking you to vote for the video but would very much appreciate it if you could check it out and vote for the one you think deserves to win. It would be so cool for Alex to get some reward for his persistance and hardwork (for an 8 year old to give up other things to prepare for competition is not a small thing since, at that age, they don't always get the concept of working towards a goal that isn't immediate). I was very proud of how he got into it this year, so if you can, support an Aussie!
