glad you asked Old Salty, i bumped into a swiss windsurfer and eventually ended up joining forces to get it with not him around so as not to attract eyes with $$$'s if you know what i mean..as of this moment am looking around for bamboo style nipa huts on google and yahoo and just about anything related..we want it simple but with a decent throne to sit in..very rugged the terrain for now we like to keep it that way and a very nice reef 300mtrs. offshore..that was the hardest i have ever done just to acquire something and have an interpreter speak on my behalf since the dialect is a bit strange but very good natured fellas..we hope to open 2-4huts by this nov. if not more when season starts..and i will invite everyone with a %discount if you arrive and know my seabreeze nameseriously i had to go thru 11 families on one lot and 7 on the other and you know how just the simple process of procuring death cert.'s for everyonei counted at least 58 people on the special power of atty..wind is definitely on shore and the reef protects it from too much waves when it blows hard..there is a cell site 4kms. to get wireless internet which is a plus and birds still abound which was nice...regards

Hey JP I know it is not fitting with the local building style, but have a look at straw bale houses.
It is using straw bales to build the walls, then covering with about half inch of concrete. They insulate really well, are so easy to build and cheap too.
Google it ... seriously

regarding the land, we thought of straw for roofing and insulating but if you were using kerosene lamps or candles for the midnight extra activities it'b a fire hazard for now till we can get our hands on solar panels..i talked to a few furniture builders on the island and they mentioned using coconut lumber priced there at 2aus$ per tree with bark on meaning if you cut the 4sides to get to the core the slabs would be put side to side and for outer covering and bamboo interweaved mats for inside..i just spoke with this swiss guy a few minutes earlier and he has some interesting thoughts of balinese style cabanas..remains to be seen though we meet thursday. The bottom line here is the cottages must be reflective of the surroundings(foliage, trees, terrain, etc.) and as less cement as possible only the local volcanic rock available for any hard surfaces to be made..as for moby if you all don't mind a boat trip for now since the local airline has stopped operations till mid-nov.season starts oct. then i guess it'll be just ok..tranquility is a must but there's 2 local karaoke bar 5kms. away

Hi Folks,

It's interesting to keep an eye on the sail during those high jumps. You'll notice that there's no twist-just heaps of power. Thinking back on those old days it seems to me that jumps did used to be higher. What do you reckon-is it the effects of sail twist depowering in flight, or just age, with the associated wussiness that comes with accumulating injuries, aches and pains?

Not that I'm anti-twist or anything. I just love the loose feeling of wave sails these days, but wonder whether some lift was sacrificed along the way.

Still - everything was bigger, brighter and better back in the day! Even if we did have to walk 6 miles to school in bare feet in the middle of winter after a breakfast of cold stodgy porridge...

Yep, RIP is a great vid. Makes me want to rush out and get the latest gear so I can do that Sigh.

I don't understand how they achieve those heights.

I've seen myself times at Wanda (not in a few years though) in perfect strong cross-shore southerlies, OK-to-good waves, right choice of gear, perfect speed for height, no excuse. And yet not matching these heights at all. Sure waves there is not Hawaii, but still.

I could never figure out what I'm doing wrong then, nor now. Frustrating.
