Tassie is the best wavesailing spot in Oz.

You will get accomodation in Marrawah. But there isn't a lot because it's such a small place. But there are a few B&B's, houses to rent and a campsite right down at the beach.

Go to this page and there is a link about Marrawah which tells you quite a bit.

remember your wetsuit though,

and gloves

and booties

as its freezing.

I learned to sailboard in Tassie - the wild westerlies hit in winter and you have to go out, but the water is cold compared to any thing in WA.

The best beaches around Hobart are

Clifton, Goats, Carlton

all on the SE side of Hobart,

for Clifton a more SE to E breeze is good, the summer sea breezes usually

Goats and Carlton are good on the SW fronts.

NW winds - which are common frontal conditions, ive never found a good wavesailing place but most people go to Lauderdale and do bump and jump on the river side.

As for the NW coast Marrawah is excellent, youre looking at a 4 - 5 hour drive and it can get HUGE.

picks up all the swells the same as Margaret River, so you need to pick your conditions

have fun

Feerless,

Jump on the plane and come to somewhere warm and windy .... go to Geraldton (WA in general) in summer (winter even!).

You must have a very good reason to be visiting Tassie! Your Wedding?

I never surfed Tassie ... but remember surfing southern Vic. It was too cold in summer ... let alone this time of year (winter in southern Vic was a killer for me - full wettie, boots, hood, gloves ....have to be very tough/mad)

Come over to the warmth - you will never go back!

I was in Tassie last Summer and I sailed every day in a spring suit. Water was a nice temperature and most days were actually hot and sunny. Only really got cold at night.
Sure it can get cold at times too, but for some of the best wave sailing you'll find on the planet, dropping a few degrees in water temp is not a major sacrifice.

If you just want fun sailing, blasting around, jumping, etc, then Geraldton is a great spot for that, but if you want epic quality wavesailing then I wouldn't even mention the word 'Geraldton' next to the words 'quality wavesailing'.

Try new things Feerless! you too Radmac!
