in relation to this.. where do i go for a good flatwater (*edit* seems i have caused confusion, it doesn't have to be _flat_, but i don't think i'm ready for mast-high waves yet ) sail this weekend. checked location guide on windwanderers.. but didn't really find any good options.

i know its a bit preemptive... but i haven't been sailing for 10 days (not counting that day i was out doing rig body 360's in 2kts) and i am getting serious withdrawl symptoms. i might even turn into an emo....

btw, bris is okay as well, but graphs didn't look so good for there.

Assuming 15-20 knots SE:

Saturday the low tide is at 2:30pm, so if you go to Shearwater you'll have a bit of a struggle to get back upwind at the end of the day (depending on ability/fin/wind). So Saturday is probably best at the train (end of Smith St motorway). Watch out for lots of boats, jetskis and the odd seaplane, and get there early to get a park.

Sunday there's racing at Manly... 'nuff said

You can't really tell what's going to happen more than 2 days out, certainly I wouldn't be counting on the forecast to tell you which place will have more wind, forecasts on all major sites were completely wrong last weekend. Not saying there's anything wrong with the forecast sites, just saying it's a tricky business, this forecasting lark

Hey swoosh i can not keep up with those graphs up/down.
Not really any good flat water spots around SE QLD in a SE wind. The Goldy (train) i think has like only 100-150M. Vicky point is great in a Southerly on a low tide. Other than that you have to travel to Burrum heads.

well it looked a bit more like an easterly to me. but if SE, then i will just go to shearwater like fortnight ago.. assuming tide ain't too bad. or train like suggested. doesn't have to be flat.. but i'm not good enough for surf yet. (total nub)

was just confused with the graphs cause they show E, and i have no idea what to do with that.

anyway yeah it is a bit early to say.. but i'm sick of not windsurfing is all! i don't care if i just slog around for a few hours.. hehe actually better not jinx it!

racing at manly? sound fun.. i can't gybe, can i come? (i'll volunteer to be a turn marker :P )

Well now, forgive me and wash my mouth out with soap but, BOM are saying North more than once (could be serial typo) or a speech dysfunction (reminds me of the movie "Schindler's Speech Impediment")
so for flat with a small lump or two maybe Lake Cootharabarabarabruh or if you have a more defined North definition maybe Burrum Heads.
Flat or lumps there.

Think it might be a bit longer than that, depends on if you want really flat water I guess.

Here it is on google earth with a measuring stick:

Vicki point is awesome at low tide in a southerly though

Yeah easterly is a bit weird, I had a go at a bit of easterly sailing last weekend when a storm came through, wind swung round 90 degrees so I was going straight up and down the seaway...

Hey Haircut,

I'll be watching the graphs, not looking that great at the moment but if it's looking good I'll go up for the day. Got a new secret weapon excuse for not making my gybes as well

I think you need to be a member of Windsurfing Queensland, you should be able to register on the day.

If you've never been racing before remember to bring a Type 2 or 3 lifejacket, they won't let you compete otherwise, something to do with insurance.

Nebs,
thanks for shot of "Train"
Always wondered where it is.
Staying about 200m from there in March, so I 'll have to hire some gear & check it out.

Where are all the other spots you Qld'ers talk of around Goldie?

Hey Wineman,

Whereis.com.au and google earth are your friends

If this current crop of wind keeps up then there's no reason to even use them, except maybe to plan what you will see from your hot air ballooning flight

Come on, own up, who tapped Huey's missus?

Hooray! Good to hear from you mate, really enjoyed the use of your extended front yard up North a couple of weeks ago. I'll be back.

1) Waterloo Bay Cup.
2) Coldies at Manly Life Support Facility.

No 2) Please put my name down for this event (familiar rules etc.)

But No1? please correct me if I have misunderstood the WB Cup, so slalom, and the marks require us to piss or lay a bait in a cup on the way around and the Burrum Head Boys will collect the trophys - one would assume at the end of each race.(restrictive EPA stuff)
are you sure? No "Village Type People" one would hope.

I'm half tempted to come to Manly just to watch you guys. The set up next to your car, and launch 10m from your car and family have a picnic etc., makes me want to start windsurfing

*don't let the others hear that* lol

Sounds like u guys have an awesome day planned

Plev,
The cup is huge, even a man with your talents would have trouble filling it. Anyway I had the lid welded on just in case you show up.

I now realise why you may not show!

Tried out my new 7m at the train, keeping a good eye out for fishermen as well...
I was the only one out, not surprising as the wind was so light. Got semi-planing a couple of times, first time that's happened without whitecaps visible so it's not all bad

Hey Liz you thinking of coming over from the dark side and doing a bit of poledancing?

Heya Nebbian

I'm thinking of at least trying it. Will give padi's gear a shot =D or whoever hands gear over for a try lol.

You guys are all so good at poledancing, it might be worth a try =D Never tried it, so may as well imo.

Working Sunday from 12.30-5.30, so unless it's a 9am thing, I can't make it down there =[

Hey Liz,

Be prepared, it's a different culture to kiting! More soul, less insecurity. It's also very, very humbling when you step on a windsurfer for the first time
