Can someone please tell me what the safest way to freight a board is? Any way to guarantee it won't arrive damaged?

Also, approximate cost. (Melbourne to Sydney).

Thanks,
Harrow.

You can get pretty cheap flights these days, may be cheaper to go and pick it up. Both Virgn and Qantas will let you take a board. Virgin is better though.

Harrow,

I've had boards shiped from the sunshine coast to Sydney - Never have they arrived damaged, - if buying from a reputable shop/site - ask them for insurance if your troubled (but generally they pack them very well)! many shops may include this in their cost. The cost has always been round the $100 mark.

Cheers

I took my gear to vanuatu. free of charge with pacific blue. put it in a over sized board bag, nose and backend wraped with towel, and sails boom, mast...on top (also pushed into the bag). wrapped the lot with bubble wrap (bunnings) put a pair of wheels from a pram with duck tape to the top end and a rope to pull it thru the footstraps.
was 38 Kg total.

most shiping companies can profetional pack your board for you. But.... the best way is to contact a sailboard shop in the city you are going to, and aske if you can get on the back of one of there shipments. Generaly a cheeper way, and those delivery guys know to treat boards with respect. I have done this with getting stuff from perthe to adelaide and vis a versa, cost was about $100 - 60 depends on volume eg how big, not Kg.

try www.airroaddirect.com.au they couriered a sail and mast from Freemantle to Sydney in 3 days at a cost of $90. Really good, and easy to book on-line.

hope this helps
