Hi

I am working out what sails to get in a new quiver to accompany iSonic 122 and SType 93 boards (yet to purchase) and been out of the sport for about 5 years. Everywhere I read that sails no longer have the longivity, is this actually the case. I have previously used NP NR's, Supersonic's and Tushingham EvoII's and they had adequate life. Have the constructions changed much since. I am currently looking at Tushingham Lightning's and Storms, and even considering the Loft O2's. Am also looking at Tushoingham X-15, KA and Loft Blade for a speed type sail of around 6.5m. Any input appreciated.

Thanks

EZZY EZZY EZZY

For longevity you can't go past Ezzys in my opinion.
Just look at their resale value.

They are supposed to feel heavy and not work well in low wind but you have to be a really good sailor to notice.
If, like me, ur kack handed, and want heavy duty rather than ponce go for an Ezzy.
I've yet to break mine and they've taken a good pounding.

All sails today are made from crap that goes off in the sun, go figure. Just roll em up wet and don't let them 'dry' in the sun.
I've got Ezzys that are 6 years old and stil going good.

Let's now wait for the deluge!!!!

Nah in only 5 yrs nothing has changed.

Most freeride and race are still in similar durability mono, only change is greater use of X ply in wave and crossover sails.

Try and get freeride sails in x-ply or at least part x ply and sleeve / unsleeve it carefully so as not to crinkle the mono and it certainly won't last LESS time than they used to 5 yrs ago.

Don't worry about it

I'm with The Grinch, go Ezzy, very durable.
Because of circumstances, I only have one sail now, an Ezzy Infinity. I sail it under & over powered, and after 2&1/2 years, it still looks great.
With the Ezzy combined with my Kinetic Gladiator, I'm finally getting a good run out of my gear.

The sail in my Avatar, only lasted a year, when I had two sails to use

As far as my quiver goes I have the following sails.

North sails freeride all monofilm - Strom, very good build
Naish freeride all monofilm - crap after 1.5 years
Naish Freestyle/ Wave Some mono some X-ply - pretty strong
Naish wave mono/X-ply - X-ply still fine but mono now has a patch as of last week
Ezzy Wave se all X-ply - Indestructable, only had it 2 months but used it to learn to wave sail over rock and not a scratch.

Well my point is that all sails are strong but the Monofilm in them isn't. the More X-ply your sail has the better even for free ride or race. Otherwise the only Monofilm I trust it the North sails, it's goto be at least 0.5mm thicker than NP, Naish, Severne mono.
