Just looked at the Australian registered sail numbers list for the first time in a while and I notice it has been severely culled. Many numbers have disappeared. I understand the policy of current membership to retian number ownership but it's a shame that some famous sail numbers from the past (especially in the 'KA' list) have vanished. I recon we need a historical list/appendix so we can identify sailors in olds photos etc.

I agree Andrew.
It wasnt long ago I looked and all the "old" KA numbers were still there. Now mines gone along with a truckload of others. I know some of the guys still with original KA numbers but I was never informed hat they were going to be deleted.
How did you keep yours??

I agree too

Mine has also gone. I thought I was an AWA member at least until June 30 this year but as I haven't rejoined a club yet it looks like my number has gone also

If you want to keep your number just join a club! The real problem was that people who actually use sail numbers were severley restricted in there choice as most numbers were taken by people who may not even still windsurf!

As far as a register for past numbers go that sounds like a good idea although remember that everything you see on the website is done by volunteers, I cant imagine it would be an easy task tracking down every number over the past years!

Mine's reserved!

AUS01 *, RESERVED R

To be honest, I've never raced, but bought a second-hand RS-1 sail a couple of years ago with the letters/numbers on it! I'm waiting for someone to approach me on the beach and call me a fraud!

I've also got a couple of old sails (no good now) with sponser stickers on them - a big 'Peter Jackson' ciggarette box on it!!!

(sorry for butting in........you may carry-on.)

I guess I am still a current member of Windsurfing Victoria.

When my son was born I registered KA0S for him. It has suddenly disappeared as well. Oh well... he still uses it anyhow.... and lives up to it too!!!

I just can't get my head around all those extra letters on the new sails.... KISS I say...

I can't see any harm in continuing to register any old sail number anyone wants. It only becomes an issue if they sail in international events, and lets face it, there are not many who that will effect. Outside of international events and classes, sail numbers are just a personal ID, and often a statement much like a personalised number plate. To do away with that is to take away from the windsurfing soul/fun and just get booooooring!

I used to be KA3 on my landyacht, but then it was changed to AUS 3, trouble is the sails last for years, went to an event and 5 people were using my old sails, one bloke said the assoc. had issued him the No. now I use gaffer tape for all my sails and take it off after each event.
