Anything I need to be wary of sailing on Wallis Lake? Any oysters or any other nasties lurking on the bottom? I plan to launch from the great lakes sailing club site.
(Ever since a friend of mine trod on a razor clam in Lake macquarie and required 60 stitches I am cautious of new locations)
Thanks, Harrow.

Make sure you have money to pay for the parking if you launch from the Sailing Club, I've never had any bas experiences feom here only that damn ribbon weed. Most people launch from the boat shed further south as the guy there is a windsurfer.

gh,
Yeah, I noticed the $7 fee to park near the sailing club. I thought that shed/cafe place to the south may have been private property, and you could only park there if you were hiring their gear or eating at the cafe. So they are cool then with you parking there to sail?
Sounds like a weed fin is a must too, huh.

Yeah he's OK with you sailing from there aslong as you don't take up the limited beach space. I dont have a weed fin as it varies as to the amount of weed in the lake, it tends to float in long lines. I normally sail at Smiths but it is a bit low at the moment. I'm only there in Jan. when I make my once a year pilgramage from out west.

gh,
Do you stay at the Sandbar Caravan Park? (right on the shores of Smith's lake) I was thinking staying there next summer.

Yeah, we stay there during Jan. great place for the kids to learn to sail. It is starting to fill with sand so sailing is a hit and miss affair depending on the water level.
