I have 2 carbon booms :

Gaastra 140 cm - 190 cm

Duotone EPX 150 cm - 210 cm. I like this size with the 60 cm extension.

I noticed I could interchange the end tails : both 20 mm diameter and 20 mm between the locking holes of same diameter 6 mm.

I know at first one would think it’s best to keep the booms and end tails corresponding for equal wear, but I must say it works quite good to change the parts.

Later I found out that most of the slim booms have this diameter like Goya Skinny, some Severne, Neil Pryde, AL360, Aeron, Point7, Select, without any guarantee of course. You need to test and check.

Some are a bit smaller 19 mm : Chinook and Duotone Mega Slim.

Nearly all are round.

Some are a bit bigger unfortunately.

I broke the end tail of the Duotone EPX and I knew Unifiber sells these end tails separately.

I bought in a Polish Webshop and asked in advance to confirm the diameter is 20 mm.

When I got it it was 21 mm.

It’s not their fault because Unifiber has a secret B2b website with wrong indications on it.

But they could be more customer friendly and pay the shipping back to them and foremost not deduct a part of the price because there are some microscopical scratches on it now.

So in short I’m stuck with the end tail.

I was thinking of sanding it a bit. Only maybe 0,5 mm, so 0,025 mm by side would work I think and then the end tail would be firm.

Or would I need to worry about the strength of the end tail.

Something else : on both booms I have al lot of wear on the end tail although I clean it. But I’m used of handling bigger sails than my friends.

At that point where most of my sails are rigged I broke it.

Now I’m using a small rope I insert as a wedge in the boom tube to avoid play. I’m sure if I would have done this earlier I wouldn’t have broken the end tail.
