I was out on Saturday arvo and there was a steady southerly blowing 15-20, with the usual 1-2ft swell that accompanies southerlies on Botany Bay. Anyway, around 3pm there was a vicious squall with lots of rain, followed by a total calm. Well the calm lasted about 5-10 minutes - enough for the bay to settle down to a mill pond. Then the 15-20 settled back in all of a sudden. The next 3 minutes were total heaven. Dead flat water, no swell or chop, or white horses to be seen with a steady strong southerly blowing. I was just thinking this must be what Sandy Point is like all the time.

Sam Parker and I were out on Formula gear when the front hit. We sailed the whole way home directly downwind. Must admit it was alot of fun. Totally out of control, but alot of fun...

Hey Harrow. If you want to sail Botany like Sandy Pt, go around to Kurnell when the southerly hits. Offshore speed runs from Quibray Bay/Bonna Pt along Silver beach. just check the water depth.
Im sure I saw Sambo at Collaroy Saturday morning working his arse off

ka43, do you sail across the mouth of Quibray Bay to Towra Pt and back, or just back along Silver Beach toward the refinery wharf? Are those groynes a pain for getting back to the beach?

Harrow, you can sail out from the tip of Bonna Pt towards Towra Pt and use the extra length to get going flat out or just beach start from the smooth water. gets pretty choppy in Quibray bay at times. The first groyne is where you should be turning around and heading back. Not super long runs but very flat water and nice gybing.

Pretty tough to make it look I worked all of Saturday now that forums are here!

Was a weird day for sure but ending up with 1/2 an hour on my brand new RS6 6.2 made it all OK. Very nice!

Sam.
