It's been two days with no homework and no hard work, but i'm already sick of it.

- Any other windsurfers here still going to school?

- Do you do school sport? (or any other weekend activities)

- WHEN and HOW do you find time to windsurf?

Herd of surfing like that around the coast. Last year we had a surfing team. But windsurfings so small in SA theres no competition around. Not even for me out of school. Think theres some races at Boggy Lake for all the older guys.

it wasn't comp based.

for windsurfing we went to a local sailboard and catamaran school. so for the first 6 months i sailed cats, then i saw the light and did the windsurfing thing for a year or so.

then for a year i did surfing as well. (for me esky lids). we caught a bus to the beach and just surfed all arvo and then caught the bus home again. got back to school around 5pm. i remember one memorable session at curumundi when some cyclone swell was around. 8-10 foot waves breaking...

Oh right. I'm unfortunatly a bit to far away from the water. And also, you can't realy take windsurfing gear on public transport.

your right, you can't take windsurfing gear on public transport,

but you may be able to contact one of the windsurfing schools in your area, then see if they can meet somewhere close by and then see if the school would allow a group of you to go....

bearing in mind that at my school way back when we would drive for an hour to get to a nice beach.

yeh i still go to school, i have been lucky in year 11 with no home work so far so i have been geting a good 1.5 hours of good action after school on the river, but it still isnt a 5 hours, it would be sweet if it was posible to orginize a term of windsurfing with school, go ut there one my own gear and show all the people who have never done it before up, but i guess that injury is more than posible with this sport, and it can suck for a while unless you pick it up real fast, and get planing within 5 days (like me) :)>
i wish there was a windsurfing school, where the main core subject was windsurfing and you had to do it evry day, like thats kids show blue water high
oh well, got the week ends to go out, and mondays to explain y i ddint do my homework and get detention.

Yeah i need to keep doing my work and Boggy Lake is a bit far to ride of a bike lol.

Yeah there use to be a grommie team in SA which i was in a while ago when i first started out. The guy tht ran it went to NSW i think and his just come back and working in Onboard. I don't know if his going to do it again. Use to be run by a guy called Make Stewart i think (not sure of spelling). His who i learnt most of my windsurfing skills from.

Maybe a landsailor would be useful to you. You could at least practice your rig handling and tacks n stuff.

Yeah mabey but where would u use that up in the hills. And u can't gybe them very easily can you? Thats what i need to work on. I tacked 7 years ago but havn't done it for a while except when i'm helping my mate or using a realy big board and not going fast. How much are they worth by the way?

Well you do need flat ground, the more open the better. That implies playing fields or carparks I guess. If you have a carpark you can use a long board street skate. If you're on grass you need off-road wheels.

You can build your own with a bit of dweebing. You can get suitable wheels (pneumatic about 200 dia) from a couple of those furniture removalist trollies. Supercheap Auto was selling them for a song a while ago. You take the wheels and axles from the trolly and fix the axles to skate board trucks. Fix them to a deck about 1200 or 1300 long and a hole for a mastfoot and youre in business.

Or easier than that, beg for one on this forum.

Yeah thing is i don't want to damage any of my gear. Even if i used old sails theres not realy enough wind around my house as any open are is an oval surrounded in trees. And extreamily inconsistant. Isn't realy the ideal spot. I would try, but i wouldnt want to spend much money at all on it.

At the moment at home i've been doing land kiting. Got a kite but no buggy yet. Kites good because it can get abouve the trees.

kiting doesnt apeal to me at all. i think it is just like wake boarding but you get more air time, and i dont think that it has the same technical dificulty as windsurifng, why dont you get one of teose computer windsurfing games, its not he same think but it gets some windsurfing into the day even if it is virtual not real,.

I've got one old one. It's so unreal that i question everything on it and it bores me. When i first got it a couple years ago it was ok. But now it's so unreal it's not funny. I don't play computer games virtually ever anyway.

edge were abouts on the river do you go, i go down to lucky bay but it doesnt get much wind coming through because of the hill, and it doesnt seem like its worth it if its only blowing 15 knotts and you only get 8

Bubs

I left school long ago, but continued with TAFE till I was about 35ish. You only stop learning when you are dead though.

I absolutely and utterly hated sports at school and would do anything to avoid it. I raced gokarts a few years back and found that a lot of fun, but then a few years ago I discovered windsurfing. You don't know how lucky you are to have discovered it early in life and at a time in the sport where the gear is developed and relatively readilly available.

Jord, I go to Lucky Bay too, only on forecasts around 20knts though, I find its fine with a SW, but as the sun goes down, it swings around to SE and gets blocked up to about the sand bar. Today I was down there on 5.0m with my F2 82l waveboard. Was well powered up most of the time, had a good sail!

Back on topic: On some occasions, I might be out a few school days in a row, if wind is right!

Weekend plans changed and i FINALLY got to go windsurfing today. Great day, new boards great, and another thanks to Chris who helped in fixing our boards. Despite the fact dad got catepulted today and cracked the nose of his board in the exact same position as before.

bubs why dont you and your dad invest in some noze protectors, or even those boom head pads, i got some and they work realy well, i think if i didnt have them my board wouldnt have a nose of a tail. i dont know what the internal damage is like but it cant be bad if there is no crack and no sign of weekness

Yeah were going to get a whole heap f boom bras and bash pads before the next sail.

I'm thinking his JP board must be less tolerant to mine because i got catepulted into the nose of my board quite a bit yesterday and there wasnt even a scratch. Only the mark from the plastic of the boom rubbing on the board.
