anyone had any experience with the supercross sx. more in the 15-20 knots range.

is it available in us base.

and to take things a bit further, has anyone compared it to the torquay free ride fin?

cheers -jj

Havent compared the two, can give you my thoughts (I have used the torquay freerides for 7? years). I looked at the supercross yesterday, looks like a beautifully presented fin, it is a little narrower than the torquay or at least has a more progressive thickness variance. So probably should be a little quicker and shouldnt have to start quite so far off the wind with them.

I believe the torquay freerides are too thick towards the head of the fin, also the torquay will stick and stick and stick but when it lets go it's when you are at your most compromised resulting in a bad stack. The torquay is not a great fan of cranked over gybing and will spin out in the gybes. The supercross has a more progressive flex too... again down to the pretty large thickness variation of the torquay.

At the price the torquay's are hard to overlook but my general impressions are kinda like this- imagine the torquay is a holden/ford, fine for most people. The select is more like a bmw/merc, if you had the money you'd probably pick it over the locally produced model.

It's a pity the select's go under the water cause they really are a fancy looking fin . Dunno about being available in us box though- another thing quite a few local people have mentioned to me that they've lost their torquays- they develop a whitish weak spot near the base and eventually they let go.

Hey Gestalt.

My translation of US box is "Useless Shit"

Why on earth would anyone seriously contemplating going quick want to use such a crap fin system

Give me tuttle or power any time.

!!

not all my sailing involves going quick,

some involves turning and jumping...

looking for an open water fin, that planes quick to go on a fish wave board with a 6.4 kult. top speed not critical but a bonus none the less.

Gesalt, I got this fin for christmas...

Torquay bump and jump -12 inchs (30.5cm) G-10 bump and jump fin. Never be used. Fits A-box (screw at front). My board is a powerbox so no good for me!! $59.

The A-box attachment is a metal attachment, I believe the theory is that if you hit something the attachment goes rather than the fin tab.

Be careful how big you go with US boxes. I would say 13" is definately the limit for them, the boxes roll in the boards quite easy. My freestyle fin is 32 cm and I currently use it with 6.2 max but could go bigger to around 6.6 max with it.

agree mark.

i have an option on a shorter, big area fin for the board as well which should help in that department. yet to see the foil.

14" is what i am looking at in the freerides. i spoke to the manufacturer and he thought it was getting a little big too. but 13" in that style of fin is just to small. when the wind gets up, the sails get smaller and the surf bigger i got a 10" wave slot.
