Find someone traveling from your area to the destination by plane.
Head into your local sailing shop and ask for one of their card board sail boxes.
Roll your sail up, insert it into the box and then tape it up.
On a domestic flight the sail will normally travel for free with a paying customer. Even if they have a lot of luggage the flying bastards (qantas) will only slug you approx $10 for an extra piece of luggage.
Not sure about Povo Star (jet star) as they are pretty full on about your luggage weight allowance (20 kg) and then you pay for every kilo over. Even if this is the case at around 3.5 kg for a sail it will be a lot cheaper than standard freight.
Just make sure the box is no longer than 2.15m if going on Povo Star as they refuse to take anything longer as it will not fit into the luggage bins which they slide into the belly of the Airbus 320 fleet
*Worthwhile knowing thgis if you plan on grabbing one of their cheap flights to Maui and were planning on taking your own sailing kit with you !

My suggestion is Virgin if you have a choice
