And since windsurfing went "high tech" it has become a lot less popular than it was in the days of cheaper, tougher, heavier gear.

I can see the logic for the average person as to why this is the case. It is a hard ask to get someone to pay $3000 for a basic new setup that they are only going to use occasionally on average and probably won't last (well) for more than 10 years (the Wally being the exception at half the cost and more durable, but that isn't well known or well advertised).

An example of that is I've been paddling a Windsurfer hull for exercise. Every time I hit the board with the paddle, drop it, or ride it up onto the beach I'm glad I don't own a new fragile SUP board. I also bought it second hand (complete) for $300 about 16 years ago.

I only ever watch the opening ceremony of the olympics, and some of the downhill stuff during the winter one which can be pretty exciting stuff. Frankly most, if not all of the summer events are boring - who can run the fastest, who can jump the highest. I'm struggling to think of something worth watching...

... including windsurfing :

My eyes!!! My eyes!!!
Seriously I've never seen so much dry humping. They need to, somehow, enforce a wind limit. Perhaps hold all the sailing events elsewhere?

Imagine sitting at the pub "Hey you guys mind if I turn the footy off for a bit? The olympic windsurfing is on. Ah good, they're just about to start". This could be followed by some very live boxing and/or sprinting events.

Thats what I'm talking about, Olympic windsurfing at its finest
The Olympic weightlifting is good watch, the Womens Snatch is always exciting viewing.

Well let's pray for wind then. I'd love to watch in planing conditions (stupid Olympics).
