I went for a sail yesterday evening at point walter, with the easterlies and all... on my 103L syncro with my 6.5 GTX, I had the stock 32cm freemove fin the board came with in... and i got going real quick but i kept spinning out... wat could be the problem... I almost never spin out with my 5.7m on that board. Wat can i do to stop it? My sail ended when my boom snapped and i got hurtled at the water... Thanks to Chunky and his mate and the guy with the boat who gave me a lift in, saved me a big swim... PS anyone got a cheep boom which will go to about 215 cm extension?

Later

PS hope everyone had a good Chrissy

Pure Filth,

Back hand pressure can lead to cavitation, moving the harness lines back a touch can help.

also

if your boom breaks offshore on your going in side then you can through a lot of water treading an fiddling around take your boom of an turn it over. It's not ideal but it is good enough to get you into shore. Have tried this one before and it does work, ya just got to not think about what else could be in the water with you

when ya coming back down?? we need ya to bring the wind with you again

It's all just a minor ripple in the cess pool of life!

Hi Haydz.
Spin-out can be caused by quite a few factors & combinations.
( sailsize/mastfoot pos/rigging/chop conditions/ gusty conditions/harness line length/ sailing angle/fin/speed....etc..
Give me a yell when we're down sailing at the same time, with the same combination that you mention & I'll take it for a spin (ha)

Happy, healthy & windy New Year to all!

Filthy

Jez makes all valid points, and all his knowledge on setup comes from years of experience, and knowing what to tweak when. He might well be able to sail your rig perfectly as it is - but can you ? Well worth taking up his generous offer to check your rig for setup, but may I suggest.....

The quick solution is to try a slightly larger fin. Borrow one size bigger (approx 2-4 cms) off one of your sailing buddies, and if it fixes the problem, you know what you need.

Hi F.A.
As I was posting the last message, 'Chumpy' came into the shop & described the conditions that your situation occured in.
(Bring your sail in, we'll sort it out, maybe we'll even find you a 2nd hand (carbon) boom)
Young Chumpy was saying that he was a tad overpowered sometimes with a 7.0. & he's no sparrow,( no comments on Christmas turkeys) so it's hardly suprising that you were coming across a few problems.
Grumpy would be right for some situations, though from what I hear for that day, the rollercoaster would have been even worse with a bigger fin.
My viewpoint comes not from my ego, nor casual observation but from 20 years of an an instructors viewpoint.
The main antidote is experience, but the fun of the sport is getting that experience.
The path is lined with pain & payment(usually both) but it's fun

Have fun.
