I've had a go at a couple (74 and 85 ish?) as i was close to buying a secondhand one a couple of years back. They are similar to an evo - slow, turny, stable. I've never tried one in the surf. You might get frustrated by their lack of top speed for jumps and stuff and they aren't really an early planer regardless of what starboard claim. Many folk praised them for their handling in euro styled onshore slop.

Cheers

there good upto 25kts/ head high... then they get a bit of a handful after that, probably cos of the wide ass tail.... so for 90% of the time they are sweet.....the rest of the time I use a pintail.

never have probs getting mine (fish86) on the plane, ever and i'm 90kgs.

i seem to keep up with other wave boards maybe a tad slower, but the thrusters will give you an extra 10 deg pointing

great on jumps and thin rails good for the ride. may have to offset back strap if you are light on.

best point is that there a piss of piss to get on the wave in marginal conditions....also if you muck up on a section there very forgiving and normally can get u back on.

worst point ..yeah suppose there a bit slow, espically getting to the lip, mind u that could be just me ..i'm a newb and it's my new yrs res to drive it harder ..... oh yeah and the footstraps are ****.

yeah 07 boards WILL be better but i only paid $450 for mine in mint and a newby will set youu back 5times that. which will be good for you, if yer like me poorboy.......

mind you after saying all that i wouldn't say no to a new board santa i've been good.

ahhh i suppose those thieving *&*#$* ######### in cash conv have still got yer acid!?!?!?!?

Poorboy, I can't rate my 96l Fish high enough. Tipping the scales at 95kg I found that I could get out most day you would want to sail and sailed it in everything from 15 knots with a 6m to winter storms of 30 to 35 + on a 4m. In the real heavy conditions they are a bit of a handful due to the width of the board and the wind blowing it about but still do about. I found on those days that the wife's 86l fish was perfect.

It is the best board I have ever had for jumping and they point high so in general a good all round board.

I have my 96L Fish for sale at the moment in the buy and sell section for $650 as I have traded up to a 07 Combat. Still not sure which is better. Drop me a PM if you are interested in having a look at it.

hey poorboy,
86 fish, seems to love the 4.5 to 5.4m sail. not that special at jumping high. but on the wave face it is soething else, late turns, powers back up well, keeps going on a sloppy wave face. bigger waves bottom turns a treat!!! Mine was second hand if you can find one, paid $330. Sorry TimB, couldnt afford yours. I'm 80 and the 86 is spot on. cheers sail hard on thursday hohohoh
