Does anyone sail the southern end of Stockton Beach in a Southerly?

Had a look on the Saturday of the Easter long weekend, not much wind chop as it's protected from the rock groins of Newcastle Harbour. There wasn't much swell but it was flat everywhere that day so i guess it would be ok if there was a bit of swell running......... Maybe a bit on shore.

There was no one out and I didn't have my gear

Is it any good?

Comrade Rys
I sail northern end of this beach you speak of
I also sail him just this Sunday gone.
You must be waiting for wind to go more south west... in southerly it is very onshore... this make sailing difficult but still much fun as was the case on Sunday with biggish swell running

Stockton end is better in nor east but there is not much reef for breaking of waves... in nor east you much better going round to Nobbys where you will see many sailors and many good waves on reef.
These sailors very friendly, you just ask where to sail through channel in reef so you not smash fin and friendly local tell you right place

Birubi also work well in Nor east though many people not like the cross off shore... slingshot down the line wave ridding !
Me I lurves it and often sail him on my own

For southerly sailing there is spot half way along Stockton beach but you must need 4wd for getting to this spot.
There is little point on beach that you can just see from Birubi on clear day... this spot work very well in southerly... more cross on than rest of beach which is direct onshore when wind is coming from south

Thanks for the advice Kremlin.

Saw that spot you are talking about half way along the beach on a map and thought it looked interesting. I need to ditch the commodore for a 4WD I think.

I plan on moving to Newcastle some time in the next couple of months so I'm keen to explore the area.

I'm still pretty inexperienced when it comes to wave sailing but it's time i got amongst it a bit more.

Hope to see you around when I get up there.

A lot of advice from Kremlin, but seeing that it didn't make much sense to this local, I'll have a go:
The southern km or so of Stockton is good in a southerly, you choose a spot depending on the wind angle (SW to SE) and your personal preferences (fully sideshore etc) and the swell size which increases as you get away from the shelter of the wall. A good number of people sailed here in the good old days, but now only the occasional one or two. It's a similar angle to Blacksmiths 30 minutes to the south which is more often sailed.
As for the northern end of Stockton I guess you mean Birubi which is good in a westerly and occasionally sailed in a NE for bearaways as Kremlin said. There's 30kms of uninterrupted sandy beach between Stockton and Birubi. I can't figure what this spot halfway along the beach is. I guess you mean near the Sygna wreck. As far as I know it's a smoothly curving 30kms with no "point" or interruption of any kind. Check Google Earth to see for yourself. Don't check Whereis.com because it shows a bay and point halfway along that is totally fictitious - weird! Perhaps that's what Rys saw on the map he mentioned. But that doesn't explain Kremlins comment, I'd still like to know what that's about.

Flotsam, you very funny, speak German yes ?
Is good name in German yes... I laugh much !

Now for talking of sailing, I mean Birubi beach end yes ?
This work very well in nor east, I sail him much in nor east, south west and south east good too... very on shore in straight south make big problems for getting out through waves like Sunday just gone.
I live here 4 months and sail many many times Birubi since move from mother Russia
As for little point down from Birubi... you must be driving for 5 km or so, not as far as Sygna wreck but long way for walking.
This point stick out just far enough for changing angle of wind for sailing in southerly.
You no look google earth, very old picture from satellite yes ?
You bring sailing gear to Birubi, I take you to spot down beach in lil mule.
I just drive there again today for making check that point still there... point was there ... wind was there, 18 - 22 knots on gauge
It take lil mule maybe 10 minutes for driving there on beach, lil mule not go fast but does job good yes ?
You see when you come up

Me not speak German, but you funny too. Flotsam derives from the French. What's it mean in German?

I might take you up on your offer, this point intrigues me. And yes Google earth may be years old, but it still surprises me that that beach could ever differ so much.
