This might be a really dumb thing to ask. Is it ok to store sails wet? Im anal about putting my board in the bag dry but not sure if it matters for sails. Never used to bother about it with dinghy sails if it was salt water.

Fletchk,
Ideally it is better to roll them up dry, but this can sometimes be near impossible if in a hurry etc. My limited knowledge is if rolled up wet it is better not to rinse off with fresh water as salt water inhibits mold growth and lessens the degradation of stitching etc. I think David Ezzy advises that there are no issues with rolling sail up wet (salt water only though).

I store my sails in the car and I find it gets very musty smelling if I don't dry them.
(usually rinsed with fresh water)

I find they and the car smell donkey's crotch (not that I would know) when rolled wet.

i've never bothered to dry my sails and never bothered to keep them out of the sun when lying on the beach/foreshore.

they still look new to me and are now 2 seasons old.

i guess it depends on materials.

No, monofilm is monofilm. UV damage is not visible. All those long chain polymer molecules are breaking down. Two seasons of use but four seasons old.
