This year i spotted 3 dolphins twice in the bay and last cup day weekend spotted a massive sting ray in the pit. I met the famous one eyed seal at stony point western port bay as well, wich was unreal. never seen a shark in melbourne and i dont believe they exsist. well i hope anyway

another thing i saw in the water was a few months ago. I was windsurfing at inverloch and came across a Golden Retriever, wich was trying to swim across the inlet in a strong current to it's owner, who was out windsurfing. I yelled out to the dog ''a dude you ok!'' i got no reply as he kept swimming for miles to his owner and jumped on his sail board. The guy who owned the dog was telling me he usually swims twice a day across the inlet while he is windsurfing. what a awesome dog

Railway Sleeper.First impression, after closer inspection [slightly longer and not quite as thick] i reckon it was probably a plank off a jetty.Slightly submerged and glad i didn't collide with it,could have done some serious damage.

My mate coming over the top of a huge swell and hitting a submarine..... almost hit the conning tower and swerved but fin hit the hull.

Can imagine all the submariners hearing a big dooonnnggg and wondering what the hell they hit!

If that was on the land yacht then you have won this thread, hands down!

Little wooden boat about 3-4 metres long full of water and sitting just at water level - I hit it at full speed as sun was in my eyes, luckily landed the other side of it. Wasn't real happy!!!

Not really strange but a pleasant surprise.....
In Noumea about 1990.....sailing out in the bay..thought I was going really well when i hear
a bit of female laughter behind me.
Two young and very attractive female sailors overhaul me and accelerate past me..the fact that they were only wearing bikini bottoms and harnesses had nothing to do with my lack of concentration.
Although so delightfully French and seemingly natural , it still didn't stop me falling off due to my lack of focus.

Ive seen a monster turtle whilst sailing out from dutchies. The coolest thing Ive ever seen, he must of been at least 100!

Imagine the evolution he`s lived through, first ships doing 5 knots max, then stink boats chugging out smoke, 2 strokes reving thier tits off, then windsurfers busting loops!

Its just like Manu said in the gaastra vid Heart & Soul, `We are very lucky to see wild animals, free, in there own natural enviroment.`

That board: wow, talk about sticking out like the proverbial dogs balls.

Never saw anything more than a couple of shark fins in NSW.
Saw a beaver last summer in the Great Lakes though...

was out quite wide and saw something big (like a large bouy) floating in the water, decided to use it as a gybe point. as I gybed looked over realised it was a huge very dead turtle. Made sure i didn't stack!

Also not quite a year ago a couple having a root on the beach. Didn't even think about stopping (doggie) and were watching me ride around. Was kiting so quite close to beach playing in shorebreak. Later she was blowing him etc, both completely starkers putting on a show. She was a spadger too with tribal tat on her leg.

Sometimes it better to not wear polaroids when sailing. You see all sorts or weird (could be a shark) stuff in the water that you wouldnt see otherwise.

a guy windsurfing in speedos and booties. Just wrong. I don't think I ever really fully recovered.

Lots of wildlife,

sharks (small uns)
dolphins
turtles in Dahab
Dugong in Darwin ( I had sex once with a chick that had a body not dissimilar to a Dugong)
Friendly Seals, on a very light day, 4 of them swam all the way back to the beach with me, which was very nice of them.

A few years ago a whale found its way into Botany Bay, and it was all over the local news as it took about a week to find its way out. There were lots of people out on boats trying to see it. I am on a sail in a 15-20 NE on a saturday afternoon, and I see all the boats watching it about 400m away and assume it is where the boats are. Fully powered up and about 20-30m directly in front of me and across my path the whale surfaces. I jam the heals down and head up wind hard, and manage to stop (sink the tail) about 5-10m from it and just manage to stay on my board and get out of the straps while my board is trying to sink and sit there for about a minute while the whale decides to move on. I hate to think what would have happened it I cam past 5 seconds earlier just as it was surfacing.

Other than that a huge dark thing went under be in Shark Bay WA. It was large and round so I assume a Manta Ray or something. Also seen Dolphins in Nelson's bay, and many other large unidientified shadows at various locations such as Noosa River, Trial Bay. It really makes you wonder how many dangerous creatures we have been close to that we didn't even see. I am sure that we only see a small percentage of the sea life that is actually swimming around us.

Same as Vosadrian, saw a Humpback whale rise out of the water in front of me at Rye. Regularly see the same 2 playful dophins off Mornington pier.

The other day I watched 2 pelicans flying as part of the V with those other dark long neck but smaller birds. Was like a species identity crisis. Probably common, but I've never seen it.
