Ok got lotsa experience with foam sandwich epoxy blah blah but took on a smashed tail on a friend's surfboard, doing it as a side project while I repair a snapped sailboard.

Anyway, have built up with 2 part expanding foam (Erathane GP2 for the boffins) and the colour match is spot on for the core of the surfboard...... on the bottom!
On the top where the UV has yellowed the board it is much more noicteable than I thought: the repair will really stand out when viewed from the top.

Any tips on how to yellow (brown) the foam just a tad before I lay up??

I dunno..... she gave me a trade secret only two days ago, might be stretching the friendship

Ankle feels really, good I can walk normally on it without the boot (cast) but it feels week. Still hurts a little now and then walking on uneven surfaces like my very average lawn. Thus windsurf even in 18kn half powered and pretty flat water is a way off I guess. Naturally that walking out of the boot is a no-no, only take it off for a shower but I had to try just carefully to get my spirits up after 4 weeks!!! Guess it didn't work because now I think "It's healing faster! Maybe I can get outa the boot earlier, start physio earlier, get on water in two months not three...." Then it is "nah the expert said 3 months for a reason, lets make sure it is 101% before hitting the water" so still pissed off! Hope you wanted the long answer

The bird thing is ****in weird, bit of a worry. There is no way they all ate berries off the same tree or whatever cos it would have occurred previously (you'd think). That leaves poisoned water or air........ which is not good for people either! I'd like to say it is the 30kn seabreeze every day that knocks 'em down but nup.

Hang in there with the ankle looks like its going to an extended summer, (well I am claiming it is anyway)
was wondering about the birds, you and not being able to get out for a sail, thought you may have found a bag of marbles some old jelly rubber and made a Ginge or shangeye and cut loose

No but the ankle injury is a good starter with the birds.......

"How did you do that"
"Well, I windsurf and we are really hardcore, we leave those motorcross freestyle boys for dead......"

Not sure about that expanding foam mix, you may find in a week or so the top will be a great match but the bottom is way too brown.
Think surfboard foam has a uv inhibitor in it to stop it yellowing too badly.
You could try masking a patch out and leaving in the sun for a day. See if you get an image.

Step 1: Use expanding foam.

Step 2: Print your logo out onto overhead transparency paper. Heck, you could even put a photo on there!

Step 3: Tape transparency to board, leave in sun for a week.

Step 4: Spray with clear anti-UV paint.

Cool! I wonder if you can buy UV-sensitive paint? With deck grip mixed in...

*quietly goes into fits of rapture contemplating the printing possibilities*

Got it.

Water based Wattyl "baltic pine" wood stain. Slightly thinned and applied very very very sparingly. Spot on.
Now got a 100% match on the bottom (white) and about 99% on the top (poo colour)

Well done Mark, you'd have to get a medal for conscientious ding fixing.
All I've ever done is just glue in a new bit of foam, regardless of colour.
Here's hoping after all that work it stays like it!!!!

Doing a snapped Acid 66 at the moment. Imagine wahta that will be like...... about 5 colours in the graphics and the design is complex to say the least.

Maybe spray the whole thing white and write Kustom on it then sell it as a Hawaiian hardore board

Hey anyone wanna buy a hardcore 66L errr Quatro.... made in all white so errr nobody knows what it is. Greta for comps, all secret n stuff

That looks hell wicked

Sounds like my old panel van, when the surf was flat we used to park it at the Cott beach and deccorate it with textas

Just get some acrylic white paint, add a drop of yellow to it till it matches. Mask over stringer with a 4mm(?) masking tape,or respray that too by making up some brown paint. Spray over top with clear lacquer, then a flattening base to hide scratches.

So Mark, should Mark also paint the top white, in case the expanding foam goes brown????

Yeah top and bottom, the easiest and best way. Too hard to match otherwise and all the stuffing around. Then just get out and use the thing.
