Hey

I am planning moving into AU with my family (from Israel). I may stay in one of these 3 cities as I know their jewish communities. From "windsurfing and Kitesurfing" persepctives -
1) what is the best option?
2) In what months shoudl I expect wind to come over

I am used to surf in 25-35 knots however not with so large waves (as the conditions in Ejypt-Dahab are storng winds with not so many waves). However, I truly want to get some progress with waves;jumps and loops.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

Personaly i would have to say perth. I do live here and i haven't sailed in sydney or melbourne, but from about sept/oct to march there is wind. If you are starting in the waves WA is perfect for you, as there are many differnt conditions from small waist high to mast and a half plus. It really is a windsurfers paradise

I live in Perth and sailed Dahab 2 years ago, for two weeks. It's a good spot, but no were as good as Perth. We have waves for every level, from gentle rolling ..... to fast, down the line, heavy and big. If you like sailing you will love Perth. I've never been to the east coast though. I agree with shmage.

you'll will note that most readers of this BB live in Perth and cannot perceive that there is life worth living anywhere else.

Have a look at www.windsurfingnsw.com and work your way through to the gallery pages or read Jespers trek on the east coast here http://www.steveallen.pl/news/east_oz.htm or just look at the pics here.... www.nswwavesailing.org/gallery.asp

some of Australia's best windsurfers have come from the east coast and Vic, so it cant be that bad. I live on the east coast and in summer we wavesail about 3 times a week, biggest sail I use is 5.4 with a 74L board I weigh 75kg. If you have bigger gear you could sail a lot more.

As you can see Australians love their respective areas and we won't be convinced otherwise (I'm from Best Australia).

Don't know about sailing on the east coast but WA has about 2000km's NT-Sth and another 1000km's W-E of coastline.

I must admit though there is a whole lot of nothing (relatively speaking) between places, so much so that when we talk about how far it is to a place we generally refer to it in hours/days not distance.

Melbourne and Sydney are our more cosmopolitan cities with our largest populations. Perth is a big country town in comparison, but it only takes me just on an hour to travel 100km's from work in town to home (try doing that over east).

Check the cost of realestate WA has just gone through a pricing boom, but it is still dirt cheap in comparison to the east coast.

Wherever you go the people are great you can't really go wrong.

Melbourne is the BEST place for sailing in Australia.

Especially in winter!

Warm water, no crowds, consistent 20kn winds on the bay, great friendly people. The place is easy to get around. And the climate is so great - not too hot,not too cold, just right, will not need coats in Melbourne

And summer is better - great beaches, good surf on Port Phillip Bay, excellent wind .

And the Jewish community is based right on the bay at St Kilda (tell em that Joe sent you!)

Syney is marginally worse - bit colder, but the people and friendly and will go out of their way to look after you

Perth - no stay away from Perth ..... cold, wet, no wind, no waves, the Jewish community is a long way from the ocean - at least an hour inland on poor unsealed roads. And then there is the risk of shark attack! No work in Perth!

No .... do not go to Perth. Melbourne is a safe bet!
