Where is good to sail in a northerly in Syd - for someone who isnt too good.
Looking at the forecast the BOM are forecasting northerlys (Seabreeze a bit more East). I usually sail at Narrabeen (by the scouts), but it is poor there when the wind is in the North.

Looking for somewhere onshore (my safety net in case gear breaks), small waves (skill issue), within easy striking dist from Syd.

In short I am looking for somewhere that is all round safe for an imbecile with too much sail and not enough skill.

Thks

Do you want wavesailing? On the northside, try Palm Beach. Surf is rarely that big. It is cross-on shore and is usually much windier and more consistent than Long Reef.
You also have the flat water option just over the sand spit in Pittwater. NE funnels through there.
Otherwise, Collaroy vacant lot (the vacant block of land next to the red unit block, just a few hundred meters north of the shops).

Otherwise go to Botany Bay next to the runway. Winds hammers in there.

Thanks qwerty,

Looking for pretty flat water with a forgiving lee shore. Dont have the skill to head to the waves yet.

From the UBD I have it looks like it would be along walk should anything happen (read - break) at Pittwater.

Botany Bay may be the go I suppose,

Thanks

JB,

For beginners...
Narrabeen lake on the south side, the car park that is just a short drive from Pittwater road.
Type in the "The Esp" and suburb "Narrabeen" in whereis.com.au and you'll find it.

You can walk around a fair bit of the lake. I haven't been sailing in Sydney for 6 years and they used to joke about how festy the water was then, so you might want some ear plugs. ( I think it may have improved, and was relatively popular). There are used to be at least 2 shops within a 20 minute drive if you have any equipement failure.
