I’m a Norwegian windsurfing enthusiast who’s heading to Sydney
for 2 ½ months from late January 07. I studied in Sydney back in 03, and now I’m heading back on a surf holiday or maternity leave as my wife keeps on calling it…

I used to sail around Botany Bay, which have some pretty good bump n jump spots. Any other good spots around Sydney I should consider?

What are the wind statistics for February and March in Sydney? I was planning to bring a FSW 85l board with sails from 4.7 – 6.0 (my weight is 70+). What are the chances of some decent wind in late summer in Sydney?

Any thoughts/advice appreciated!

Cheers A.

Btw, I know WA is a heaps better place to go for windsurfing, but as my wife’s from Sydney I think that’s were we’re likely to stay…

Anders,

This year there were good NE seabreezes right to the end of March on Botany Bay and even a few in April. You will get some good use of your 85 litre board, but there will be a lot of days when you will need something around 105-115 litres. You will find a lot of guys who sail Botany Bay have an 85 and 105'ish litre boards.

I'd suggest picking up a larger board and you will double your number of sailing days.

Regards,
Harrow.

Thanks guys. The NSW wavesailing guide was excellent
Regarding board size my dilemma is that I can’t bring more than 1 board as we’re going to Sydney on maternity leave, which also requires a certain amount of kit…
I might just bring sails and masts, and buy/rent a board in Sydney due to the risks of my precious (board not son) being damaged in air cargo
