I think i have seen this mentioned some where before. Anyway a couple of weeks ago, i went over the front and put a knee dent in the panel of my sail.
The question i have is. Has anyone tried fixing this by using a heat gun? or should i just leave it? Surly if i don't apply too much heat it would take the stretched dent out?
You can shrink most of the dent out with heat (dependent on how bad it is of course) The process is similar to shrinking dents out of a car panel except you don't use any hammer's
I suppose you could use a hair dryer, if you're brave enough to pinch mum's
I used an iron over the top of a folded tea towel, have something flat underneath the sail.
Start out with a lower heat and the tea towel folded a bit thicker so as to establish how much heat you are able to transmit through the tea towel.
Take your time with it, a slightly bulgy panel is better than one with a an iron shaped hole in it.
Please not you'll get to the point where most of the dent is gone there's just may be a bit which you just can't remove.
izaac is there any particular reason why you want to do this i would think any heat would cure the mono and make that area brittle and prone to crack, old sails loose there elasticity and become brittle and crack, can you stick a pic up, im not sure if the dent would interfere with the performance 'edit" what size is the sail
