This photo was taken Circa 1991 at Sandy Point. Myself on the back and Peter Smith on the front. 3.9m Wild winds proto speed sail on back and 3.5m NPCamspeed on front. We are coming back up the course after a downwind run that saw 35 knots on the old speedwatch.
Peter and I built it in 1990. It is Polyester/polyeuethane, 20" x 10'8". Only big limitation today is the 'A' box finbox but I have a couple of reasonable fins for it.
Kato and I have been having the odd run on it the last few years and there is a bit of recent video on U-tube somewhere where we did another 35 knot run with GPS. Also we posted a session on GPS-SS (Look under the username 'Tandem'). I also posted some videos on the GPS-SS photo section under Sandy Point from 1991 or around then.
It needs a fair bit of wind to make it go. It is much like a sinker speed needle with 2 people. I recon it may have 40 knot potential but no good leaving your b*lls on the beach if you want to do that! ;-)
I have been throwing around the idea of a new updated design that would be a lot easier to ride (get started) and faster as well. I'll try putting some pics on the website here.
I don't know how this guy who has posted it got it but it was taken by Tim Daddo, sheethand on Maquarie Innovation. Kato and I. 5m sails. about 25-28 knots. GPS max about 36 knots from memory.
