Im keen to head to tassie soon but have no idea of when its best to go? Are waves and wind good in summer or winter? Whats a typical wind strength on the NW coast? Anyone who lives there or has been there please let me know (yes I know its cold)

I lived there, but a long time ago in pre-windsurf days, so can't really tell you about the wind !!! All I can say is...why go to the NW coast?? There's nothing there. You've gotta head to the East Coast. Great beaches.

Krusty,

there are waves and wind all year round. you get massive waves in winter but you also get good size waves in summer mast high is common, and the wind in summer is more consistantly from the one direction. so go in summer. november is good, and feburary is very nice. not so big in the wave department but the banks shape up really nice and all the sudder lots of places work that didn't really before. .

NW coast windstrength is usually somewhere between 20-40knots. my biggest sail in a 5.0 with a 68L board. (did have a 75 but that's in the grave yard now) very few days where you need bigger than that on the NW coast.

I suggest you head there in November and have a crack at the nomadic event, or in Jan for the Nats.
