Greetings all,

A simple question, what in your opinion is the best steamer ?

From wearability to durability and comfort, you know the usual things.

many thanks

Why? There is no University in Western Australia that lets a student specialise in Psychical Research or Parapsychology.

I sense you want to implement a multi-million dollar Campus Solutions system.
Will there be a 20 knot rule for the developers?

I'm a through and through believer in the O'Neil Psycho 2 wetsuit but from what I hear the new Psycho freak is even better.

But all of the bloody modern wetsuits only last 1-2 years so the same question will be asked again and again and again.

Is my steamer shrinking? The zip undoes itself!!

Billabong full length steamer - very comfy but prone to shinkage

I would consider a purpose built Windsurfing wetsuit like a Neil Pryde. They have a mechanism to tighten up the ankles so you don't get water shooting up your leg. Also have the smooth sealed panels on torso to stop wind chill.

I use an Oneill Psycho which is great but I hate getting the Michelin Man look when the legs fill up, takes the heat out too.

rip curl ultimate if you do a bit of surfing as well.

The new ion suits look pretty good too.

Me and a mate both bought an O'Neil psycho at the same time and he seems to get much more water in the legs of his wetsuit than I do. I think if you a buy a wetsuit that is a bit to long it makes the problem worse.

You'll find that different brand wetsuits have different cuts.

Try on a heap to find one that fits you.

Yep, the best steamer is the one that fits you best. If you're 184cm and thinnish, then O'Neil do a "medium tall" size which fits (me) well.

I've had my excel O.S. zip (4:3) 4 years now, and it still looks almost new. The first 3.5 years it was getting sailed in 2-3 times a week in salt water. Still toasty warm, and no leaks or tears.

Sure, it was more expensive than some of the offerings that were around at the time, but without a dirty great beer gut to fill out the space around the midsection I couldn't find a single one that fitted as well around the lower back.

Despite all the fear and misinformation around about the longevity of stretchy neoprene I am still extremely happy with my choice, and imagine that it'll be another couple of years before I'm looking for a new one. The only thing I'd change from new would be some velcro straps around the ankles, but they are easily added after the fact, and boots have the same effect.

I'd be very unhappy if I bought a new wetsuit and it only lasted 1-2 years, and would definitely be investigating other brands!

Have a look at TRIPLE X WETSUITS. A 2mm is equiv to about 3.5mm standard. Ive had mine for four years and used for surfing, diving and one season on the sailboard.

I have just got a new 3/2 from them calleda 3D combo. Its got slick panels on chest and back - great wind chill lockout. Great price and service to boot.

Definitle worth a look - i recommend them highly compared to overpriced "other" brand names. AUSSIE MADE AND OWNED.

the ion's that are made by the north group are the way to go, plenty of 'smoothie' to dry quickly and either the calves cut off or drain holes in the calf for eliminating the michellen man effect

I bought last seasons O'Niell Mutant on discount from SHQ. Previously I used thick but cheap rip curl wetsuits (non-bomb). Great price but had no glued stitching and all the trimmings. I got a serious cold water flush everytime I fell in so the 4/3 and 3/2 felt like a thickness less or more. The 3/2 works ok only as a full length spring suit, while the 4/3 was way too restricting, also the zip broke twice (although repaired for free by Rip Curl) and the zip constantly comes undone.

The O'Neill Mutant has been fantastic! I believe mainly due to the glued seams and the chest zip. Worth noting though I still have the problem of water flushing up the legs.

Moral of the story, no matter what the brand, their cheap version isn't worth it.
