For Sydney windsurfers we need the "I hate 2008" thread. My wife and I are thinking of moving to Hong Kong. I know the windsurfing conditions suck over there but they can't be any worse than Sydney.

Early 90s: I used to set my watch on the wind, rising to 15 knots by 11:30am when NE, which was a regular 5/7 days in the week, the rest being southerlies.
Friday evening races in Botany Bay (off Sanderhingam) used to have absolute guaranteed winds.
How things have changed. I now live on the Great Lakes, and Kinsgton Canada used to be local capital of wind. Now it's dead most the summer.
And there are people to claim that the weather patterns are not changing...

Its only fair we have one month off a year- need to repair those dinged boards etc, and maybe even take the partner to dinner.

I joined this forum late last year and am almost up to 500 posts. Its really depressing. One of the reasons I gave up windsurfing in 1999 was that I was getting into computers and the Internet more, eventually running a company. Now thats all over I have a normal job and time to go windsurfing and there is bugger all wind.
I'm not buying a bigger board as I have nowhere to put it. My Tabou 140 is a good light wind board but when the wind is 5 knots or less then nothing much will get going except for those weird Starboard boards.
Edit:
I have decided I will work an extra half to one hour every day. So when the day comes that it is windy I will take the day off and go sailing. I don't feel good about having a sicky but this will sort of make the ledger even.

say that again mateswinds are now shifting to the opposite and i think the monsoon season is gearing up our side..shucks man!it's weird i get so used to at least look out and go for a sail and suddenly none to do and what do i do sulk yeah sulk..and it happened last weekend so i decided to hit balls over a net(what do you call that game?) am like a fish out of water...today i was trying to scout nice areas for the gusty sometimes stormy southwesterlies..a rental station emailed our group 4 of us 25t pesos (600$)for 10sails from 3.9 to 7 all in very good condition with 2 free masts, even put in a 50$ea. for an axxis wave board and old 5yr.old f2 boards, not bad i thought but no one still budged..so i guess it's over till next oct..back to the basic exercises like swimming and low wind kiting weather permitting but am still optimistic the pacific high pressure will still persist to continue on another month

When there is no wind i always concoct up some hairbrained scheme to get me out on the water or sailing something.
best way to kill time i guess

Wise words, I've even taken up mountain biking to deal with these no wind times and my surfing is starting to improve again finally!! Happens every year dont surf much all summer cos im usually windsurfing then as soon as winter comes it's like i've fond a long lost love again it really makes you appreciate those super light days.

Life is full of highs and lows. Unfortunately ,when you are addicted to windsurfing, the highs make you sad and the lows make you happy....Kinda confusing ....

Wow, this is called thread hijacking. Sorry, no harm intended. My thread was not as long a Gestalt's, but now it is.
