Can anyone provide some info on what the lowest suitable tide is to sail on the bay in Le Morne? Looking to travel in August and want to minimize non available conditions (and hope for wind)

I have never had a problem at any tide in front of the centre.
Around in the kiting area might be a different story

How flat is it in front of the centre, and which centre are we talking about?

I presume the ION Club. Reasonably flat, unless it's a massive day (wind and tide)... But the lagoon run itself is quite short before the waves. The kite lagoon upwind of the ION club (to the left) is massive, but AFAIK hardly ever deep enough for windsurfing. FWIW, I wouldn't take my gear there. Only hire from the club (with insurance). You will break something.

Is the ION club the only place to hire windsurfing gear on Mauritius?

I saw a lot of Goya kit at the hotel. People just leave it rigged on the grounds. Supposedly the hotel doesn't like it, but they don't seem to be stopping anyone. You can bring your own gear too. But then a rescue by the Ion club is 200 euros (free if you hire from them).

^free inside the lagoon, from what I have read researching, go outside to one eye or breaks and there is NO rescue or insurance is my current understanding.

Have just returned from LE morne.... 7days gear hire from the ION club .... sailed 4.2 to 5.8. My group sailed 86L, 96L,105, 112L boards. There are 2 main sailing areas - 1)cross shore in front of the centre - 'the channel' if u go to far out it becomes major wave sailing.2) On shore - kite lagoon - tide dependent - best 2 hrs either side of low tide- the tide level varies but at lower tides a 38fin scraps occasional coral, and if u fall in u can step on some mean coral (booties essential) and if the tide is rushing out, u can get dragged onto coral. However - its virtually flat water here and there was plenty of space of windsurfers and kiters. Water in July is cool - comfy sailing in shorties/ leggings/ thermal top and saw plenty of long 3:2 suits being used. Gear hire was very good = 1800 rupees for insurance and rescue. In August to NOV - its their high season and it pays to book early and reserve a board. The centre manager is Johnny Gacqui who was very helpful - they were all excellent.

I was told the following by one of the instructors.

" Sailing in kite lagoon depends on the tide which depends on the moon. If you want to be able to sail there you should try to come around half moon. Than the tide doesn't change that much.. "

I hope this is correct.

Thinking back to when I was there last year... seems legit. The few days I spend in the lagoon were around half moon.
